Buying a new vRS?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

First post from a new member here.

I'm unfortunately giving my R32, which has given me nearly 4 years of fantastic motoring, back to the lease company in the next few weeks.

I've decided to buy my own car to replace it, which after a few deliberations led me to narrow my choice of cars down to just 2..

  • Fabia vRS
  • Seat Ibiza FR TDI

Having test driven both in the last few days, I think I prefer the fabia as I thought the interior quality of the seat looked poor to me. The ibiza had some advantages like climate and a better standard stereo, but I also thought the ride was harsh and the seats were uncomfortable.

My question to you all is: What would you buy, and is now a bad time to buy a new vRS? With the fabia being replaced soon I guess residuals aren't looking great?

Looking online the best price seems to be from drivethedeal.com

Predictably I'd say the Fabia :D . Residuals have been bomb proof so far and with it's mix of performance and low running costs, they should stay that way for a while. The only advantage I can see with the FR is that it will be rarer and more exclusive than the Fabia.

My previous car was a Seat and I lost a fortune on it. The build quality was a lot worst than the Skoda aswell, but the choice is yours and overall in 3 years there probably won't be a huge difference in costs. Buy the one you think will be best to live with day to day.

I've ordered a new vRS, picking it up on 1st of September. Current Fabia production doesn't end till December and imo it'll be 12 months at least until there is a new vRS....

If not more!

Thanks for the replies folks.

I've emailed my dealer to see if he'll match the online price.. (well i have to at least give him a chance!). If not i'll order one online ASAP.

Predictably my next posts will be tuning questions!! :D

You can always change the head unit, and have aircon ( I have managed quite well with just that during the hot weather).

It will be a change from an R32 to a 130 BHP diesel, hope it doesnt disapoint :)

By the sounds of it she won't be staying at 130 bhp for long!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi

I've just ordered mine from Drivethedeal, simlar spec. as yours, quoting October for delivery:(

The dealer I'm picking it up from thinks it may be sooner.

Although now they are all getting traded in (at 3 years old) the 2nd hand prices will drop as buyers can afford to be more choosey :D Same thing happened with the Octy I vRS...

Amazingly my local dealer (Lightcliffe Skoda Huddersfield) got within £100 of the price from drivethedeal, so I ordered through them today.

They are quoting a 10 week wait tho... ah well.

That makes sense - Mine will be three years old Mar 07 and I'm thinking of selling it within 6 months.

Nice one! Did you pick any options? I was quoted 10-12 weeks for mine and its just come in after 8 weeks  not having it until 1st of September though...

Yeah picked most of the options, cos I couldn't really believe the saving on list! I got near enough a 12% discount if my maths is correct.

IIRC I picked, Cruise, Xenons, Heated Seats, ESP & Black Magic paint.

Didn't want the cd changer, cos I have my own mp3 head unit & sub to go in the car once it arrives.

Would be nice if it arrived in 8 weeks tho :D

What about the airbag deact switch? Its a worthwhile option, takes up a blank switch on the dash and will make the car more desireable come resale time... :)

I couldn't bring myself to pay for something which should be free.....

Good point about resale though, hadn't thought about that, as we have an Octy which is the family car I just assumed I wouldn't need it. :o

Same as mine apart from ESP.
