SWMBO RTA - stolen damage

Chaps,

Not sure on this as it's a new scenario for me.

Basically over the weekend a car was burnt out down the lane we are on. In the preceeding moments SWMBO car and a neighbours were clobbered and lost all the wingmirror housings inc class and forced damage into the car, reverse mirror thrust.

Amazingly no panel damage; precision strike the US would like to get there hands on.

So is there anything she can do from the getting money point of view as it's not cheap; heated + elec + mounting panels on door / mounting point inside etc, circa 300 quid.

Is there a general insurance fund; victims of crime type affair she can call on for this sort of event?

it raises the question if your hit by uninsured, I'm guessing here you;d be looking at your own policy and claiming, I presume the same boat here; albeit a sum not worth claiming for in the long run?

There is, some motor industry association scheme for this sort of thing iirc, my brother in law is a solicitor based up at Birchwood. Can drop you his mail addy or phone number if you want to ask an expert (he is bloody good btw)

Unfortunately it will probably end up being a claim against your (*her) insurance in this case :(

I believe if you can find whoever owned the burnt out car, prove they caused the damage and they were insured, claim from them, if uninsured, there is a fund that you can claim from. However, finding out who drove the burnt car and proving they caused the damge could be tricky.

I would tell the police, they may well be able to catch the person responsible whom may cough up to causing the damage, in which case you would have the other option of sueing them.

If I'm honest though, it all looks unlikely that you'll get anywhere. :(

I had the same thing happen to me recently. 1 month old car, vandalised. A few cars were done on the same road. If you go through your insurance, it probably would be more hassle. (Where did it happen, where were you, where was the car parked?) lots of paperwork. For me, i just paid Skoda myself, as the damage came to £300 and my excess is just under £500 as im 18. Sorry to hear this!

There is a body, The Motor Insurers Bureau, that was set up to deal with injury claimes arising from FTS RTA's and unisured drivers involved in RTA's. Unfortuately, it doesn't extend to damage only incidents. You will have to stand the cost out of your own pocket or claim from your own insurance with the usual consequences.
