Can it be true that an Octavia only lives 5 years

Featured Replies

As Rob says the cutting out is more than likely a crank sensor.

Shocking way for a dealer to behave, gives us all a bad name.

thanks for all your advice on here, i would be lost without this website.

Well, if we save you more than

I would ask them to put it in writing that they have found it to be un economical to repair. Once you get that you should be laughing.

The law was changed recently to the rough effect of 'something that you buy must be fit for it's purpose and have reasonable life expectancy'.

Some key phrases -

For up to six years after purchase (five years from discovery in Scotland) purchasers can demand damages (which a court would equate to the cost of a repair or replacement).

If repair and replacement are not possible or too costly, then the consumer can seek a partial refund, if they have had some benefit from the good, or a full refund if the fault/s have meant they have enjoyed no benefit

In general, the onus is on all purchasers to prove the goods did not conform to contract (e.g. was inherently faulty) and should have reasonably lasted until this point in time (i.e. perishable goods do not last for six years).

Q3. Are all goods supposed to last six (or five) years?

No, that is the limit for bringing a court case in England and Wales (five years from the time of discovery in Scotland's case). An item only needs to last as long as it is reasonable to expect it to, taking into account all the factors. An oil filter would usually not last longer than a year but that would not mean it was unsatisfactory.

the problem with some main dealers is they have no old school mecanics and they are soley relying on the computer software.go somwhere and find a garage where they have oily hands and they smoke roll ups.

You have a PM ;)

Saunders Abbott in Sidcup have been a bit naughty with me. I went in to have a blank key blade cut, and they refused to do it, saying i had to buy there one at £160 and get them to laser cut it. Why wouldn't take my blank key, which was identical to the one they tried to sell me ??? Bloody Stealers!!

BTW nice to see another local!

There is a guy on Ebay that cuts them from a digital image for around £10 or £12 including the blade.

OK cheers i'll have a look on there. Sorry to go off topic...

Any ideas greatly appeciated

you might want to edit out your imobiliser number there

Seems like alot doesnt it.

But around four of them faults are relating to a flat battery and should clear just fine.

Looks like you need to start with...

1)Coolant temp sensor

2)Multifunction switch (F125) on gearbox

3)n/s/f wheel speed sensor

So even though at first it looks quite scary three components should go a long way to sorting that lot. And none of the three components are that extrodinary.

The dealer concerned is Saunder Abbott at Sidcup

Hmm. I live in NW, but travel to the Smoke a lot. I went once to their place in Croydon for some SLX II LongLife Oil, and they said Duckhams will do.......:thumbdwn:

worth putting a review of the dealers in the relevant part of the forum. b@stards.
