Substandard Diesel

HELP ANY ONE

My octavia tdi 140 broke down last week, eventually got it to the garage where they said that the fuel pump had shut down due to substandard diesel. The car is only 10 mth old, has any one had the same experience ?

It looks as thought skoda will not pay under the warranty, or for the hire car.

thoughts please !! very well come

they said that the fuel pump had shut down due to substandard diesel

 How can fuel pump cannt shut down because it has 'substandard' fuel running through it. More likely is that the pump became blocked. Even this is unlikely because the filter should have done its job

As the pump literally turned itself off because a sensor as detected poor fuel and it is trying to save the engine? or as the pump 'packed in' asin buggered? What fuel have you been putting in?

the sensors closed the pump down to protect the engine

we have been using standard forecourt diesel, but it sounds like a bad batch

Substandard diesel? Diesel is diesel surely and you can't be expected to use premium diesel on every fill-up?

Is there any comeback on the garage the fuel came from, if Skoda refuse any liability for the warranty? Seems unlikely unless you can gather very good evidence.

Is it possible / advisable to try to syphon some of the diesel out of the car, to be used if testing is needed.

Might be worth speaking to your local trading standards for advice, and to see whether anyone else has had problems with the same garage that you use.

Sounds like a bad excuse to me - as far as I know there isn't a sensor to detect this (at all), you'd have to do some chemical analysis on the fuel involved to be able to state that kinda 'yeah it's deffo substandard so no warranty for you' stuff.

I'd go for Andy2407's advise for sure, and get independant advise. Perhaps worth ringing another friendly dealer nearby to get a second opinion?

just spoken to the dealership about my octavia tdi 140

the fuel filter & pump in the fuel tank are both blocked solid with solids

skoda won't pay under warranty for the work, because it isn't a failure af a skoda part

also they won't pay for the hire car either, which will be needed for a further 10 days, as the pump & filter assembly for the tank isn't in the country

I would love to hear any ones ideas on sorting this one out

Many Thanks for the ideas thus far

Edit in view of last post.. If solids in there then Skoda isn't responsable, other than why did the filter allow the pump to get choked? When there was the blockades a few years back the local garage told me that allthough he had x gallons in his storage tank he couldn't flog it because it was bellow the 'safe level' and was likely to be contaminated, they had to wait a good while when he did get a delivery for the crud to 'settle' before starting selling again, is it poossible that this is what as happened here?

Where do you normally fill up? If I was going to end up paying for it, I'd be wanting a 2nd opinion to make sure I wasn't being taken for a ride - maybe a call to Skoda CS to complain? :D

UPDATE ON DIESEL QUALITY

I have spoked with skoda today & my dealer who have both told me that unless the 140 tdi is adapted in the factory, then it is not advisable to run it on any mixture of diesel containing biofuel

thx for all the messages so far

I can't guarantee that this is true, but I've been told several times that, even when supermarket fuel comes from the same bulk stocks as brand name (BP, Esso, Shell et al) fuel, the additive packages (detergents, octane modifiers etc) that the brand name fuels contain aren't included, so I wouldn't use supermarket fuels in a direct injection engine.

More immediately, if the pump was gudged up with anything other than metal filings, then the fuel filter must have failed AFAICS!
