Kit Cars?

Featured Replies

What would be a good, cheap (and small) kit car to build in the back garden?

I'd obviously like a screaming Megabusa, but that would be a bit outside my budget!

I've seen a few Morgan 3-Wheeler inspired cars which look like a good laugh.

Quantum do some interesting ones...

Rob.

I`ve had 2 Kit cars in my time, the first was a Dutton Melos with a 3.0L capri engine. I had to have a bag of sand in the back to stop the rear end from kicking when i put my foot down.

Second kit car was a Dutton Pheaton 3, it had a 2.0L engine from a Mk2 Escort.

I've seen Duttons, they're like a cheaper 'Seven'.

I do like the idea of an even smaller, possibly bike engined car though.

A rear wheel drive 3-Wheeler would be ideal.....

Not exactly cheap though :P

Have a look on here there are quite a few Se7en style cars available on the market now which you can put a bike engine in :D

If you are after a cheap 3 wheeler though have a look around for Lomax's

Fisher Menace :D

Just Googled them! What a bargain :D

Indeed, very very tempted :D

Had them stored in the Kit Car" folder in my favourites for a while now.

Must do something about it.....

The Lomax cars look like a good laugh.

Somebody around St Helens a few years ago, when I lived there, had a red 3 Wheeler of some sort with a very fat rear wheel/tyre. It looked great.

It got used a lot, as I'd see it quite often at 'rush-hour'.

Does anybody do a replica of one of these?

There I was wondering if I should keep the 16'x12' shed in our garden. We were thinking it was a waste of space given we also have a 12'x8' shed.

Now I have found a use for it !!

Eh? Surely you'd get rid of the 12'x8' shed (if any) and keep the bigger one as a workshop? Or is that just me?

Turns out a colleague has a half finished Robin Hood (Lotus 7 replica) for sale, apparently immaculate, engine, recaros and alloys included

The guy is our top machinist and is a perfectionist but no longer has the time to finish it - he bought a VX220 because that was a quicker way to get a sports car.

I'm now quite interested but if the financial controller says we cant have 3 cars - would you be interested in a half finished project for about £2500.

A quick Google image search reveals it will look a bit liek this:

sounds good, but cashflow just took a big hit

I found a 3 wheeler kit: BRA CX3

It uses a CX500 engine, but I reckon that a 1000 V-Twin could only be better!

Are you looking at buying an entire kit or dong it over a few years?

It's just an idea at the moment. I like doing things well, but on the cheap :D . A semi-built one for not a lot of cash would be great, but It'll have to wait until at least next year now.

JZR look like good ones:

Saw this thread and had to say one thing ... FISHER FIREBLADE

This is the most exciting car I have ever driven, - Its absolutely bloody awesome and the greatest fun I have ever had in a car.

I drove one with a mate who is a mechanic and serviced it regularly - To be truthful the brakes were'nt that good on it, but could be uprated I spose. However, the accelleration was MINDBLOWING something stupid like sub 5's - incredible.

Fisher Fireblade - GO FOR IT. (never made one but driven it and it was a doughnutting, fast accellerating barrel of laughs that turned heads everywhere we drove it)

Below is a fury, but a Fireblade has the bike engine

Brake upgrade would be easy as I'd imagine ther emust be a huge selection of Sierra Cossie kits that would fit straight on.

I read an article a year ago about some dude in England who made a Scooby STi kit-car thingi...STi plant in the back, Scooby wheels, colour coded to manufacturer's colours, and only about 400kgs total weight.

Yea, it was on the TV too
