New Octy arrived 06 or 56 reg plate?

Featured Replies

The dealer has just received my new Octy L&K estate,However I have to wait 10 to 14 days for a Swivel seat to be fitted for my disabled daughter. The dealer wants me to take delivery this month so that he can include it in his sales for August. The problem I have is that when I want to partx ex it in 2to3 years time, will i loose out, and if so what incentive should i want from the dealer to accept an 06 reg plate?

I would wait, but see what the small print says on your contract. Personally I wouldn't expect an incentive.

Either tell them you want it 56 and put your foot down, or try and blag some freebies, maybe a free first service and a free FULL tank of diesel? Maybe some mats?

Let us know how you get on.

I would wait until the 56 plate, in 2 years it will make a difference.

Yep, wait for the 56. By the time you have the seat fitted you'll be only a week or two away.

Also make sure you tell them not to register it beforehand, in writing if necessary.

Another alternative if you have a driveway or garage and can keep the car offroad is to take delivery of the car in august, but on a 56 plate. There are 2 drawbacks. 1) the dealer will have to drive or deliver it to you on trade plates and 2) You wont be able to drive it until the 1st september

How much difference though? I'm having my new car delivered on Friday on an 06. I didn't think it made too much difference, now the number changes every 6 months instead of every year.

If you look at the car guides, typically there is a few hundred pounds difference. It madness really but market driven. It would be nice if a dealer would offer an incentive but don't be surprised if they won't. You could always be 'out of the country' or something. When I bought mine, I genuinely couldn't take delivery through work committments for 3 weeks, and the dealer got quite pushy. They wanted payment for the car, understandably.

It's a feel good factor for buyers.

Picture it yourself, with an older car - Would you prefer an X reg or a Y reg on your drive, there may be only a few days difference but actually it could have been a year, no one will know.

Even more of a difference between Y and 51

I have held out on this before as well....... its well worth it when you come to sell - more money, and it wont cost you to hold out will it?

Its only a few weeks 'til September! :) plus you can play spot the 56 plate!

Hmm. Maybe I'll just get some NI plates for it.

The dealer was prepared to wait if I wanted, but I'm just too impatient. :-)

Wait it's worth ti, although the NI plates would be nice :)

Too late to wait now. NI plates are fairly cheap, or even just a cheap UK private plate with no year marker.
