Help, anyone got a spare plastic screw thingy as in the bits that holds the engine cover in place. One didn't line up properly when I was replacing it and consequently as I tried to remove it, it broke into two. Alternatively ,are these readily available from dealers?

I broke one too. A dealer can order them for you.

Why not leave the cover off? After I fitted my boost gauge I realised there is no point in it anyway apart from looks, after all it makes getting at things easier.

They do seem to break easily, one of mine's gone, too.

I happened to be in the local dealer's spares deptartment a couple of days after breaking it (buying some coil packs, just as insurance) and asked about them - thinking they would have dozens of them lying in a parts bin somewhere. Surprisingly, the dealers don't keep a stock, but have to order them.

I didn't bother.

Doesn't it provide protection (albeit minimal) from water, salt and other unpleasantries found on the road?

It's there to frighten off non mechanically-minded customers.

It's the automotive equivalent of the label on electrical goods which says "No user-serviceable parts inside; in case of failure refer to supplier"

Dumbing down? I'll leave you to decide...

"refer to supplier" - words I've come to hate since becoming more and more willing (and able to a point) to do D.I.Y with my car...

I must be the most untechie person on here, yet in the last few days I've done some engine maintenance (not necessarily on my car) that I never thought I would ever have before. Can only be good in the long run!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! :dtp:
