changing wheels around

Featured Replies

i am thinking that as i cant afford new tyres yet i would swap the front to rear as the front ones are a bit low whereas the back are not too bad. is there any thing i should know before i do it, i am thingking that the grip will be better on the front if i do it but not so good on the back, is this better than the other way around, it will only be for a few months anyway

I don't think it'll be a problem but it means you'll probably end up changing all 4 tyres in a few months than two right now.

itll be alright by then, at least i`ll have 4 new tyres rather than two new and two oldish, i`l just saving at the moment for our wedding in couple of months

I can just see it now "You ruined our wedding for some tyres for your Skoda!"

Better swap the wheels around for now. Better keep the missus happy!

I did this at about 10K ive now done 24K and Im still on the original tyres. Dont think they are gonna last much longer though! (They are still legal)

swopping fronts to rears is not really a good thing to do if the front tyres you're putting on the back have a low tread , the vehicle will have a tendancy to swop ends in wet conditions or under heavy braking without warning , this has been shown on the Fifth gear program recently , so better to be at the wedding poor than without a car methinks IMHO

if you've got a full size spare with an unused new tyre on it, get it switched over to one of the alloys and you'll only need to buy one new tyre.

the best of the worn (but still legal) tyres can live on the spare steelie.

cheers matt
