Fabia piston ring problem (high oil consumption) - please contact me

Hi,

Do you own a Fabia ('01/'02) that has a piston ring problem?

This manifests itself with high oil consumption and repeated engine warning lights. Apparently this is a known problem with 'AUB' engines but Skoda seem reluctant to help my mother-in-law who's Fabia has done 40,000m. The full cost of rectifying this is around

Hi' date='

Do you own a Fabia ('01/'02) that has a piston ring problem?

This manifests itself with high oil consumption and repeated engine warning lights. Apparently this is a known problem with 'AUB' engines but Skoda seem reluctant to help my mother-in-law who's Fabia has done 40,000m. The full cost of rectifying this is around £1700.

If anyone is in the same position please contact me at [email protected] - I'd be very interested to hear of your experiences.

I saw a similar post on here recently, I beleive Skoda are supposed to foot half of the bill. Theres also a Fabia Saloon on Ebay, and in the description he says it uses the later 1.4 16v that does not suffer from piston ring problems, I don't know if that's true or not? (Thats a 52 Plate)

That will be a BBY/BBZ engine so that would be right.

£1700 is quite harsh for a set of piston rings.
