Furby VRS Recent Mag Review

Featured Replies

Hi All

Recently TEST DRIVE mag had a review for 'pocket rocket' cars and the VRS was a participant, here are some of there results I would like to run through you lucky ppl who have a VRS.....

00-60 - 9.0 secs

30-70 - 8.9 secs

30-50 in 3rd - 3.5 secs

40-60 in 4th - 4.8 secs

50-70 in 5th - 6.3 secs

6th - 8.2 secs

they also report the MPG result is 40.7mpg

I would be interested if these figures sound correct and likely, also if people could tell me the mpg they get... that would be great :D

Thank you in advance for any feedback given

Q

PS - Please can you tell me MPG using a receipt and calculator, as I am not confident to the accuracy of the TRIP computer :D

Fill up to top reset odometer drive and on second fill up do the following: -

MILES DONE Devided By LITERS FILLED UP times by 4.54609 - this will give you the true miles per gallon

(Please do not be offended to the above as I did it to help those who do not know :D ) thanks :D

I did a 0-60 on a standard Fab VRS and I get 7.5s. The book figure is 9.6s fully loaded with 4 peoaple in car inc. driver and luggage.

I don't think the magazine was trying hard enough

Or maybe their timing gear is more accurate :P:rofl:

Good question - since getting the vRS I've taken the trip computer's readings to be gospel.

I tended to find when I had mine that the trip was optimistic by 2-3MPG, compared to the calculator method. Or spreadsheet in my case ;)

Steve

Other magazine tests have a standard vrs 0 to 60 times in the low 8s area. The trip computer is optimistic with everything. I get 45 to 48 mpg during normal everyday driving.

Trip is consistently 2mpg optimistic on mine.

Mostly see low 50s.

Cars respond to how you drive them and some people cannot drive economically even if they try. Others :P get good mpg even when they drive quite hard

Chris

I used accurate timing gear and did runs more than once  well impressed.

not that 0-60 means anything, just wanted to see if the rumours were true.:P

it does depend how many people were in the car when they tested though. 4 people and luggage = 9.6 secs - 0 - 62.

Say each person is 80kg x 3 (extra people) = 240kg

extra Luggage say 1 suitcase and a bag = 25kg

Total 265kg extra. so around 8.0 secs is about right. I prefer seeing it for myself than reading about what others say.

I also do around 45mpg in town and 60mpg out of town. around 50mpg overall.

One time I drove fast enough to dropped the mpg to 35mpg ;)

My Scooby did 0-60 in under 5 seconds, irrespective of how loaded up it was  Took a bit more to stop it again though

Chris

The extra weight of the fuel bowser pushing on it was probably what hampered its stopping distances :D

WOW ;) you are the man!

Thanks  I love you too, man!

Chris

I think 9 seconds is around correct 0-60 for a standard fabia vrs, and a remapped one should do it in around the 7 second mark.

wow... great responses so far here, thanks all.... feel free to keep it going, I am looking forwards to more insights into the VRS, as I am in two minds to buy or not (get a 100bhp instead)

More I hear about this motor the more informed desicion I can make when I get the cash, in a year's time or a little longer if things go wrong.... lol

Thanks though all..... look forwards to hearing more :D

0-60 ... Being a diesel, the vRS, is a bit outgunned by a lot of things, but... From say, a 20 mph start, to.. 70... it would hold its own against a lot of high powered cars.

MPG so far has been 64.5 first time calculated and 51.9 second time.

dunno think it depends on driver

my mate had rover 200 brm (c.h.a.v.y one with orange mouth lol)

My furby did hold its own but could not over take was about car length away my furb was standard then, but have 20 quid tunning box/resistor now and it has made big difference had my mates veccy sri for dust ( or smoke lol), and according to my trip ave is now 53 mpg so cant complain really

I get 47 mpg on a good 'run' from mine..the readout says 59mpg!!!

very true....

This ch4vved up V6 Vauxhall Calibra pulled out on me at a mini roundabout and it was my right of way!!! The guy in the front seat looked like a bit of a t1t. He decided to drive at 20mph in a 30mph zone (I reckon on purpose cos he thought he was the man!) I thought if a tractor was going this slow everyone would overtake!.... so I thought i'll overtake him as it was on a big longstretch of road and nothing in miles.

So put my foot down in 3rd and waited for the turbo to spin up a second and then pulled out, as soon as I pulled out to overtake he put his foot down and his car lurched forward, but in seconds it was all over I overtook him with ease and he looked pi55ed off.He started chasing me:finger: , but at this point i'd slowed back to 30mph. not a great example as v6 calibra's arn't that fast or good cars but you see the point.

so your right 0-60 not excellent but in gear very good:thumbup:

There was a test in Autocar (or it may have been another mag) and their quoted Fab VRs 0-60 figure was just about 8 secs.

I saw another road test that said on a freaky run on a cool, fresh day they managed to get about 7.4 secs.

As far as MPG goes, i usually get 50-55 mpg on a good run, trip computer only about 2MPG too optimistic!

factory figure of 9.6sec is from 0-100kph not 0-60mph.

Using a AP-22 I record times of 8.6sec from 0-60mph. This is with the driver, no passengers and the fuel light on.

Put your foot down in 3rd at 20mph? Your clutch aint gonna last long!

I got dominated by a V6 Calibra on the A30 the other week. Well actually he just had a better run off the slip road than me and I had to slow for traffic. Did seem quite fast though. It was ch@ved up, so it may have been the turbo. In which case Im not complaining!

maybe a bit faster then, it didn't bog down, I don't look at my speedo every second but it was a lot slower than speed limit and I think it was in a 40 mph zone not 30mph.

Any way the point was that it can keep up or pass higher powerd/more expensive cars.

Is your Car remapped Chris?
