wireless router went phut

Featured Replies

My netgear router went phut today.......in some ways I was expecting it as I have had so many problems with netgear but it now means I have to buy another one .........is Belkin any better? I am on a borrowed adsl modem for now, but will have to go to PC World as it is the only outlet open at the moment.

if they have it I may go for this CLICKY any comments ...good or bad or any others at pc world any good/better.

TIA

ROb

After my experiences I'd say avoid D-Link as I've had no end of bother.

Belkin supposed to be super-easy to set-up.

My netgear set-up has been faultless.

My linksys kit wasn't so fortunate..........psu is covered in burn marks it ran that hot.......sparks from the power socket on the unit and dropping connections if there was a "Y" in the day of the week....

Disappointed it didn't go "beeep", but i hear it's truly busted now anyway.......

Have to admit not had any issues with netgear stuff myself either.

We had a Dlink thing that ran linux, but they wouldn't give the source as required under the GPL license so we could fix a bug they wouldn't.

Their tech support is absolubtly dreadful when i tried.

If you want a good one a XyZel security router is excellent. Have a 652 that has been running for years at home with no problems at all.

Up and running with a belkin wireless G router.....installed very easily ..just got to set up security now :D

We have a belkin MIMO router at home, no issues at all and excellent range.

AFAIR you could install Alchemy on almost all linksys 54 series, and that's a patched version of their linux (with some additional features too).

I had a belkin for 5 mins beofre the PSU failed. The second one just diddnt work, lights were on but no one was home.

My current 3Com router was less user friendly but has excellent range and has been faultless for over 18 months.

Another vote for Zyxel  Mines been running 3 years now and never needed touching :D

I'd avoid SMC, based on previous experience....

I think its the luck of the draw TBH. I have a separate cable modem, router and wireless gateway. I have replaced the router 3 times and wireless gateway twice in 3 years. Currently using Belkin for both although the wireless gateway PSU went pop a while back so I made a new one. Netgear, D-Link, Binatone, SMC and Linksys have all let me down in the past. I find PSU's seem to be a weakness.

Need any help? ;) :P
