Hello:

After looking down my nose at Eastern European joke cars for many years I was forced to look around for a replacement after the insurance company took umbrage with my wife's off-road excursion in our Golf and wrote it off.

I vowed never to buy VW again after serious engine problems, so I cast my net around and finally took up the general opinion of the motoring press and have just bought myself an 05 2.0TDI Octy with DSG, and am blown away with it.

I'm a bit of a petrol-head and an IAM member, so enjoy driving for driving's sake. I've owned Morgans since 1972 and could never compare the two, but this Czech motor is as close as it gets for me to enjoy tin-top driving.

I'm having to get used to the delays and subsequent surges in pulling away and during the kickdown for overtaking; bit like driving a pre-automatic choke car on a cold morning, but my, what a car!

From the solid thump of the door closing to the feeling of the PAS gliding the steering wheel through your hands it's quality personified.

I'm 6'6" and rarely find a good driving position, but again the Skowder comes up trumps, with bags of head and leg room, in fact seamingly seating me above the lower classes in their Mercs and Beemers. :-)

I'm hoping this isn't just a sweet honeymoon period for me and my Octy and that our marriage will be a good long 'un.

An excellent choice of car.
