Iv'e been putting Norton Antivirus 2006 onto my client's PC's for a while now, but it's such a drag on system resources, especially on some of the older ex corporate stock I sell on. Can anyone suggest a program that is much lighter on system resources and that has good protection:confused:

I use AVG from Grisoft. Found it works well and doesn't take over your system. Only snag with it is by default, it does a full system scan every morning, and if it's not on at that time, it will do a scan when it boots up.

There are loads of others out there, a few which I have used and have been happy with (kaspersky, nod32...)

E-trust for me, anti-virus, firewall or e-z-armor (combination of both but slightly cheaper)

After being robbed by Symantec for so long I don't mind supporting good software.

Go into test centre/scheduler & disable it then & it will not run automatically .

Since you are already using a pay-for software, might I suggest Nod32. Very powerful, quick at scans and light on your system.

It won't screw up yout system like Norton does either.

If you want a free AV, go Avast and not AVG.

If you say so but we dumped Sophos in work in favour of AVG as the client pc software was dire. Despite the fact that AVG effectively gets their virus profiles 2nd hand from Sophos, with our server updating daily from Sophos and then the client machines, there where several occasions that AVG picked up viruses that Sophos didn't even notice. It was very dissapointing considering it was costing 4x the price of AVG and wasn't anywhere near as effective.
