Protection, a rubber question...

Featured Replies

Hi to All

I am about to order 4 tyres as replacements for the Conti SCII that came with the car as new. Being a driving instructor, it would be nice to have tyres with a decent rim protector. The SCII rim protectors look good (but I have not actually tried them to see if they work) and I have been happy with the grip / wear compromise, the only area where I feel these tyres are lacking is in creating a lot of road noise.

So on my shortlist are:

Toyo T1R

Pirelli P Zero Nero

Uniroyal Rainsport

Dunlop SP9000

Not interested in grip levels (I have a fair bit of insight as to the driving characteristics of each and expect them all to be pretty good), but am interested rim protection and tyre noise. If you felt any of them particularly noisy or quiet, what were you comparing them to?

Chris

I know Colin G is very happy with his Nero's, they have a good strong sidewall and low road noise. That's what I'll be swapping my Conti's for.
