ESP Warning light.

Featured Replies

Anyone know why my ESP light would come on at speeds over 120mph?

The car has the ESP (obviously) and the same orange light comes on as when you press the ESP button, yellow circle with a triangle in the middle.

As said it only comes on after 120mph then stays on untill I turn the ignition off, it started doing it the other day and never has before.

You'll think I'm mad, but if you know anyone with VAG-COM or similar, ask them to check whether the MAF is healthy.

Have you made any changes to the intake system? (filter change / CAI / etc etc)

More warning light shenanigans today.

Car was in the garage to have a 'steering squib cable' which is actually a big plastick thing that goes over the steering column replaced today to rectify the air bag warning light.

This has been succesfull and now the airbag light is out for the first time in 2 years!!

The Engine management light was on with a fault code reading EGR valve faulty. this has now mysteriously gone out too. great hooray etc etc......

but no, now I have 3 more warning lights on instead!! the ESP light is on permanantly now, as is the ABS light and the handbrake light flashes constantly, according to one of the ecu computer thingys (not a proper VAG one so pretty basic) it's saying steering angle sensor no response (even though the values change correctly when you turn the wheel) and ABS coding error.

all that was done today was disconnecting the battery and changing the afore mentioned squib cable, anyone got any ideas whats wrong now? that squib wasn't cheap!

P.S. incase anyone was thinking 'how reckless, 120mph on public roads etc etc' it wasn't on public roads it was on a track day.

was typing that bit as you replied!!

No mods to intake at all, it's a PD130 with a dragon digital box and thats its. still drives perfectly although I obviously dont have any ABS TRC ESP etc etc.

Been over to the guys at Saunders Abbot Skoda today near Bexhill, unfortunately they couldnt fix it today so it's going in for the day on wednesday, ABS wouldnt take the code or something, so they need to investigate more thouroughly and work out why the fault codes are there, and why they wont hold a code.

Interestingly they have found a whole hoast of other fault codes that the muppets at Saltdean never sorted, including an error code for the air con relating to a flap or something, I've always thought there was something wrong as even after re-gassing the A/C has never felt cold enough, Saltdean assured me it was all working correctly!! obviously not.

Anyhow, what a difference they are to Saltdean, very friendly and communicative, salesmen were friendly too, might have to book a test drive in the TDI VRS when it's out (apparently near x-mas). Not looking forward to getting the repair bill, however it doesn't seem so bad when you get the impression they are genuinely trying to help you.

I'd recomend them to anyone in the south east, particularly along the south coast where most of the rubbish dealers have gone bust.

When you change the steering angle sensor (the squib) it erases the coding in the ABS control unit. You need to re code the ECU after entering the relevant login code.

I was under the impression that the Steering angle sensor, and the squib were two separate items? aparently the squib cable thing is for the airbag? as the airbag light has gone out since it was changed.

I think thats what they tried to do today but for some reason it wont hold a code, the mechanic said he's seen the fault before but they always code up ok, mine wont for some reason?

He was the senior technician, do you think I should pass on your info when I go in on wednesday? dont want to step on any toes!

The slip ring and the steering angle sensor are the same component.
