Is it just me.................."Fuel disapearing"

Featured Replies

I'm sure it can't be just me that thinks or imagines this. It happens on every car I've owned.......................Here goes.

You fill your car to the brim.

Drive around for the first 60-80 miles, fuel gauge doesn't move an inch, not a whisper from it.

You get into your car after that, its dropped slightly, even though it hadn't moved on the previous journey.

From then you achieve good milage till it hits the half way mark. (lets say 240 miles, great for me.)

After that what happens................fuel just disapears into thin air, and for the love of god you cannot in a million years get good milage for the second half of your tank of fuel.

240 miles 1st half of tank, 100 miles 2nd half of tank.

Why is this, why cant i get 240 1st half + 240 2nd half..........................Is this just me and my driving or one of lifes un anwsered questions ?

It cant just be me ??????????????????

Now youv'e come to mention it.....................

The fuel guages don't read evenly across the scale.

Full is 55 litres for example ,

Half is 25 litres left , and a quarter is only 10 litres.

The reasoning is you need a more accurate check on how much fuel you have left when you are closer to the end of the tank rather than the start

isnt it because of the shape too? i mean i could drive to coventry on half a tank, and then on the way back it would take half a tank to get half way home before i had to fill up again

isnt it because of the shape too?

Yes...a lot of tanks are narrower at the bottom than at the top...

Rob.

very annoying aint it.
