Keeping track of car costs, cost per mile, mpg etc...

Featured Replies

Well, with the imminent arrival of the economobile, its the first car I've ever bought brand new, and as its been purchased with budget running costs in mind, I'm keen to keep track of every penny spent on in, including cost per mile, mpg etc.

I could muddle up some pants spread sheet, but I know some of you already keep a track - I'd be interested if you could share files or ideas...

And what costs should I include? Monthly loan repayments? Insurance? Tax?...

Answers on a postcard!

you'll just depress yourself, don't do it. ( and it's SAD )

I know, and I know... but would be nice to do I think. Will impress the second keeper when I come to sell it when they can see every time the oil was topped up or washer fluid bought!

Take it the girlfriend has left and you have too much spare time on your hands. Good luck with the new car.

If it wasnt for Kelly I'd be keeping the vRS - but tbh I need to fall out of love with cars... and now I'm thinking about purchasing a house :)

So, BACK ON TOPIC ;)

I have a spreadsheet that keeps track of mpg that you're welcome to tweak a copy of.... :D

I'm sorry Tom, old boy,

You are turning into an old man before your time.

If I were your age I would be out in my nice car ( not an old mans corsa) with a young bird.

Or going out and getting ****ed and going for anything with a pulse.

By the time you have saved enough for a deposit for a house the stupid Americans will have had the world decimated.

Get a life, whilst you still have chance.

Strewth, young lads, don't they make you laugh:rofl:

Balls to the lot of yer... :P

I done this for a few years, from Buying a New Ibiza Cupra in 02 then selling that to buy a 99 Boxster, which I kept for 2 years.

I set this up as I got car allowance through work, and over the three year period with the two cars taking into account, deposits (to buy) income from car allowance (After tax), savings on Tax (for not having Company car), Petrol outgoings, Mileage income (for business miles), Loan Payments, servicing, tyres, MOT, Insurance etc. etc. I came out the end after selling the Boxster with a profit of around

It is a bit odd tom. At the end of the day if you want to drive a car around you have to just deal with whatever it costs. It's not like its going to change what you spend on it. Might aswell just drive and accept the money you pay is what it costs.

I know fella. But it will be interesting to know, thats all. Get to see how many miles I need to bill the company for to enable the car to pay for itself, if you get me...

Plus in 5 yrs time, if I can say it only cost me 15p a mile, I'll be dead chuffed....

Tom, if yo uwanted to seriously sav efor a house deposit you shouldnt' have bought a £9k car.

You could have borrowed £9k from one bank then used it as your house deposit at another.

Obviously thats naughty but if you can afford the combined repayments and got a long fixed term on the mortgage you'd be lauging.

You will never ever in a gazillion years save to keep up with house prices let alone get enough for a deposit.

Keep your fingers crossed that a rich relative dies and leaves you a load of cash ;)
