Ugly calipers

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've taken some of the advice here and used a clay bar on the body work of my Octavia which has just passed it's first birthday. I also removed the alloys and gave them a good clean and polish. I even went as far as buying a little car vac and cleaned the inside. The car looks great! Except for the brake calipers which are badly tarnished :( . Their uglieness showing through the alloy spokes spoils the look.

I had considered getting them painted or giving them a good clean up with the right stuff. What have you guys done? Are there any warranty issues with such a job?

Thanks

Paint em green.............Hamorite Green smooth...............Sorted

Hammerite! Oh that sounds nice and easy

Are there any pros or cons - any bits that you shouldn't put paint anywhere near? How long should I leave it before driving if I do it? How should I prepare the surface?

I'm sounding like my daughter (why? how? what for?) - need to get out more!

Get some de-greasergets all the crarp off........and then just paint...Greens Good or any colour you like..

Cheers,

Must give it a go before the weather becomes appalling.

spray on brake and clutch cleaner and a wire brush work wonders on brake calipers :)

then paint with the desired colour, if not using hammerite then i suggest high temperature paint as the brakes can get bloody hot.

i painted my rears red simply as i had fitted some brembo's to the front but if i hadn't then my choice would probably be black so that they look clean and tidy without standing out.

paint on one coat and then move to the other side, then move back and do another coat and make sure you have left a good 30mins at least to let the paint go tacky and aply a 2nd coat. don't worry if the paint doesn't cover that well on the first coat as in my experience it normally doesn't. i try and put at least 3 coats to give them a decent deep shine. :)

Or remove, clean up, mask and spray for good coverage and nice finish :)

Lummox, those look great! I'm way too busy to do them that way and I don't have axle stands. But they really look the cat's meow! I might pay a mate to do them for me that way so that they are done well.

How much should I pay someone to do this.

Depends on your mate
