2.0 service

Featured Replies

I had a 12 month inspection lube service and a broken foglight assembly replaced today at my dealer for a reasonable price of

It's worth noting that to fully inspect the belt, the cover needs to come off (the inspection window apparently does not give a great view). Do you know if they took the cover off to inspect it?

If they have taken the cover off to inspect it thoroughly, then they have done the hard work and may as well change the belt while they're there. :D

Inspection window???

Sounds like a good service to me, very honest.

do you mean the upper timing belt cover?? (the one above the right hand engine mount)?? it's true they can see the belt from here but it's a very limited view and you cant easily see the back(toothed side) of the belt from here.

it is a horrible job changing the timng belt on my 2.0 fabia because of the limilted access down the right hand side of the engine, so i'm not surprised that they dont want to do it!

Yeah, sure, why not! I was just going on experience of previous cars which actually had a cut-out in the cover so you could see a small part of the belt and I assumed the Fabia was the same. I'm guessing if you can see it from the upper timing belt cover, they don't need a window! :D

No they didn't remove the cover completely. The service department said if they removed the cover completely they may as well replace the belt.

I didn't get the impression that they didn't want to do it because they said they were happy to take my money but didn't feel the work was required on this engine at it's current age/mileage.

Good service in my mind.

£50 of the £128 was replacing the broken foglight so the actual service seems very cheap to me?

I quite like doing them, easier than an Octavia as there is no PAS pump and reservior to worry about. Damn site easier than a Sharan I tell thee..lol

cor blimey yeah!!! how about changing the belt on the 2.4 5cyl sdi engine in a transporter, the one that has the injection pump belt on the other end of the engine?? what a farce that thing was to do, i'd never done one before that, never again either!

Sounds the same as the 5 cyl diesel engine in the Audi 100 then, also a pig to do for the first time.

Transporter is easier to do if you have the frame to swing and rotate the engine.

no, i decided to dop the lock carrier panel/headlight assembly down to get better access. the only trouble with working on the vans is that they are so high up.
