Spray Painting

Featured Replies

Please see my other thread on my bloody wing mirror disaster !

If I get the primed unit from Part Co I will need to spray it myself.

1/ Car is black, what is the correct colour/code and where do I get this from

Halfords ????

2/ Is it easy to spray the mirror, I know masking tape is involved and thats about it !!

cheers good people.

you can get carbon fibre effect covers for the mirrors from Butts i think they are made by Milotec easier than painting?

Have you thought of visiting a few of your local bodyshops, you might find someone who will do it for cash & they should match the paint exactly if they know what they are doing,

just a thought that might save you a load of hassle

Also can the cover be sprayed before fitting, if yes just find out where bent Skuds ( check other VAG cars as paint may be the same colour) are generally sent to be fixed in your area, then if you find someone who is doing one the same colour it shouldnt cost more than a few quid for them to spray & Bake the cover in the oven.

The paint code for you car should be on the big white sticker stuck to your boot floor. This has lots of other codes on it like your cars factor options etc.

Going to a body shop to get one mirror painted will be an exspensive option.

Modern 2 pack paint isn't cheap and it is only normally sold in minimal quanties of 1/2 litre when you will only need a thimble full. + You will have to buy laquer and sundries. Add Labour to that and you begin to get the idea.

Once you know your paint code I think JHM Buttco sell aerosols - I'd buy one from them and a can of laquer from halfords and do it yourself.

Flatten the primer with 1200 wet and dry - take your time and you should be ok.

Apply a few light coats rather than one heavy one - otherwise you'll get runs.
