Fabia Headlamp conversion to driving in France

Featured Replies

Hi. I have a friend with 2003 Fabia TDi. He is moving to France and needs to convert his headlights for driving in France. Is it possible to alter the existing lights, or will he require a pair of "French" lamps? It`s not possible just to mask up the existing lamps, since this would fail their MOT.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Colin

You can buy aftermarket headlamps which will be e-marked and LHD - normally crap for us over here in the UK, but ideal if you're driving over there!

They'll probably be cheaper than gen. Skoda items too.

Duck tape. :D Although for permanent use this may not be the best solution. :D It does for a brief foray into Europe though. :)

perfect excuse to buy the black ones off ebay!

I was about to write something similar, but as he'll be relocating out there and will need to pass their equivalent to an MOT, would a temporary fix satisfy the testers?

Would a UK-registered car need to pass a French MOT-style test at all? Would it not need to come back to the UK to be re-tested every year?

If he tells dvla re permanent export will no longer be shown on their database

But will need to check with French Equivalent regarding re registering.

(Above only correct if this is a pemanent move)

Why not just buy a proper french spec car?
