Just VAG-COM'd my car and I got the following messaege:

01309 - Power Steering Control Module - J500 - 49-00 No Communication

The power steering does not work - Its a 1.4 MPI Fabia - 2000 model .

I ve had the power steering pump replaced (suggested by a few on this forum) and this fault code is still present.

Anybody have any ideas what could possibly be wrong?

steering rack or angle sensor?

Was it a known good pump?

my 2000 1.4 fabia (petrol) power steering intermittantly stops working. When i had a long journey the pas warning light came on . I stopped the car turned the ignition off then on and it went out, the lights still flicker sometimes and dont trust the steering sometimes. Sorry im no mechanic seems could be a design fault and if so shouldnt skoda put it right for free? battery and alternator tested and are ok

Its more than likely a component fault (the PAS Sensor) why should Skoda fix it for free if its out of warranty? Parts break and wear out.

It was a good pump - At least I pretty sure it was...:(

Is there any way of testing a pump? Is there any electirc switches on the way that could lead to this problem?

This problem started after a window got smashed, the battery went flat and was jump started ..... Any way of repairing this>

By reapiring this I mean the power steering -

I ve tried pretty much everthing - Fuses / etc

I just want to try and gett his repaired as I think the Fabia is a great litte car and want to use it more often ....

Ideas?.......

My Father in Laws car has an intermittent power steering problem too. The car is a 2000 1.4 8 valve Fabia. The problem started just before the battery died and although the car has a new battery now sometimes at the end of a journey it doesn't work. Where is this sensor that could be at fault please? I checked the book last night and there was no fuse listed for the system.

There are two fuses for the PAS system. The sensor is mentioned in great detail elsewhere on the site.

The PAS ECU which is part of the pump has a couple of supply lives, an earth, the PAS Sensor and its wires and a set of communication cables, that is it. No additional switches.

We checked the electrics pane in VAG -COM - Not sure if that answered your question regariding PAS controller...

Yes there was two other fault code although I think its nothing to worry about but ...

01135 - Interior monitoring sensor - 36 -10 Open circut intermittent

01136 - DataBus for comfort system - Single ......(rest not written down :confused: )

Any way of testing these pumps - electric getting to the pump.

I ve isolated the fact that it is not the pump ....

Whats the next step if any .../?

Hmm you have a single wire fault there on the data bus, I would check to see if anything else is in single wire.

You can check to see id the power and earth are ok at the pump with a multi meter.

Yeah - I noticed three switches on the PAS pump - One for power and two others - Which we used - I suspect it is the communication cable is faulty - not plugged in short circuted.....

Wondering how I caould check this ....

Ok understand how to check for power and earth are ok at the pump.

How to check if anything is in single wire

The left and plug as you look at it though the grill is the communiction plug, the large centre one is power etc and the PAS sensor is the right one.

I'm suffering from a similar problem:

Mine has suddenly stopped working, without warning today. No intermittant fault, just no power steering from startup. Tried re-starting etc to no avail. Has been fine until now. Vag Com says no communication to the module, same as the first post in this thread. Tried a new fuse (fuse 7 based on the diagram on Fabia-vrs.com - Fuse Panel Layout but the fuse was fine) But you say there are two fuses? Where might the other one be?

Just had a look behind the grille to see if I can access the ECU but the horn is in the way. It will have to wait till tomorrow before I can have another look. Damn the steering is heavy with no PAS!

You've still not sorted it? It's lucky I was using my polo until today. No power steering on that so I'm used to heavy steering. Even so, this thing is in a league of it's own!

I have the same car and the same problem, I went to the skoda dealer they told me to change the pwoer steering sensor which cost

No - I had these problems when my window got smashed and the battery ran out.

Can you think of anything that might have caused it on your car.

I actually replaced the pump from a 55 plate scrap car and guess what - That didnt help

I replaced the battery around christmas time because after five and a half years and 93000 miles, the original one had had it. But Ive done about 2000 miles since then without a hitch.

I've just ordered a fabia haynes (been meaning to for a while) To see if I can find where this other fuse is.

Found your thread saying the other fuse is on top of the battery. Had a look at it, cleaned the contacts and the fault still remains. :( I will have to check continuity of the wires now, otherwise it's new ECU. :(

Right I just checked the Power Steering fluid and the level is on minimum. If the power steering motor is buggered, would this mean that the power connection to the ECU becomes severed?

Topped the fluid up and it's made no difference. Cant get the plugs out of the module so Will have to take the bumper off, tomorrow now as the weather has turned.
