Squeaky Dash

Featured Replies

Had a few rattles on the octy to date some of which have been cured by mentioning to the dealer while in for a new clutch and some (rear seats) went after having a dining table in the boot with the seats down.

However I now have what can only be described as a squeaky dash, its on the passenger side and sounds like the dash is moving against the front pillar. Its really loud and seems to be getting worse unless the better half holds the dash down.. I can even hear it above the radio.... anyone had this or have any ideas on a possible fix?

I will take it to the dealers when I get chance / have the time as one of the boot lights was stuck on as they have obviously snaped the catch when it was a demo and its now starting to unstick :(

Ouch, what happened ?

I stupidly turned up to buying a dining table with only the octy then thought ... hold on how am I going to get it in there.... in the end got the table top and 4 chairs in but had to admit defeat and put the legs and 2 chairs in another car, but I don't know why that sorted the rattle, possibly just having the seats down and back up again

I think he means some of the rattles went after having transported a dining table in the back, as opposed to having to go into the dealers for new back seats...

hobnob - funny how I just replied to your hissing suspension thread with a comment about squeaks...

The silver plastic trim above the glovebox creaks on mine on cold days. If I have a passenger press a finger against it then it stops. Might get it looked at when I take it in but don't fancy the chances of them taking the entire dash out and making the whole thing worse.

I also have a squeak between the dash and the door trim on the drivers side. Wedging a finger between them stops it (but makes it hard to operate the wipers...)

There is a known issue with the screen vent squeaking about, think there is a modified vent.

When I first got the Octy I was driven insane (alright I was already) by a similar noise. I found it to be the insulation that is over the passengers footwell. It attaches under the pocket but it wasnt properly fixed. Had car a year now and no return of noise.

Deffinately the dash, if I open the passenger door and press the side of the dash the whole thing moves and makes the same squeak I have been hearing ... will have to get it looked at

revival of a very old thread...!

I have got exactly the same symptoms as you, hobnob. Did you manage to get a fix?

i had this last week and solved it. open the passenger door, the cover on the side of the glovebox (same as the one on the drivers side for fuse box) take it out and place it back in ensuring all clips fasten properly and then shut door, problem should now be solved!!
