I'm looking to get some new wheels for my vRS, but I actually want some that are lighter than the stock wheels. I'm going to stick with 16", but I can get Superlights that weigh 8.2kg for the 16"x7" size and will take the right tyre. I want to know how much weight this will save me over the stock wheel, but I can't find a weight for the bare wheel anywhere. Can anyone help?

I only managed to weigh them with tyres 16.7 kgs IIRC as I compared them to the 17" Octy vRS alloys with tyres of 18 kg's

I did manage to weigh an octy vRS wheel without tyre which was 10 kg's, so I assume the 16" wheel will be lighter still.

After substituting aftermarket alloys, my weights were:

16" standard vRS alloy, Toyo T1-R 205/45 @ 6 mm: 16.9 Kg total

16" standard vRS alloy, Toyo T1-R 205/45 @ 3 mm: 16.3 Kg total

17" Team Dynamics Pro Race 2, Toyo T1-R 205/40 @ 8 mm: 16.9 Kg total

So the Pro Race 2s let me go up a size without incurring a weight penalty, and will be lighter (tread-for-tread) as the rubber wears away.

Toyo say a 16" T1-R 205/45x16 weighs 8.9 Kg.

I have always wondered where the rubber goes.

Think about it, millions of tyres on the road, millions of tyres replaced due to wear every year. this must means that literally tons ands tons of rubber just vanish....

We probably breath most of it in!
