How do you take the hole out of the dash?

Featured Replies

I'd like to remove the plastic cubby hole beneath the radio, so I can screw a phone holder into it.

I haven't given it a good look yet, but I tried pulliing it and it seemed to be fixed in tight.

Is there a secret release for it?

Cheers..

Why not get one of these:

phone holder bracket

much simpler to do.

You need to pull it... very hard. You won't break anything*, but it takes quite a bit of force to pull it.

* usual disclaimers apply ;)

Q.

I believe ('coz my brother removed it from mine) that if you take the radio out and the climate control module out then you can get at it front top and bottom. Next your going to ask "how do you take the radio and climate control module out?" Don't know but I think the plastic trim surround for the centre console is easy to remove (may be some screws located in the ash tray recess?)

Any help? Probably not but still nice feeling to be a little bit helpful.

Lee's right.......to remove the climate control you do ahve to remove the plastic surround and undo 4 (I think it's 4 anyway) screws.

To fit the phone holder bracket you remove the plastic surround and take out the screws for the climate control. The bracket fits between the dash and climate control. Quite neat really.

Sorry if I'm too late in responding to this thread - only just come across it (story of my life.... )

Yes, the tray thingy does just pull out but I found it safer to remove the radio and push it out from behind - also less likely to cause damage to the car.

The surrounding trim panel unclips by carefully pulling at the bottom and the radio is removed using the two supplied metal "probes". You can put your hand in the radio orifice (woo errr missus  ) and push / pull the tray out. Watch you hand on the sharp edges of the radio cage !!!!

I've fitted the ACME mobile phone holder to my car - a suitably bent and welded piece of sheet steel covered in black sticky backed plastic and velco (I knew all those years of watching Blue Peter would come in some day). This slots into the gap between the top of the radio and the spare switch blanking cover (now the ASR button on the vRS - I have to make do with Right Foot Regulation). A piece of furry velcro on the back on my mobile completes the job allowing the phone to sit high (at air vent level) with the screen and keypad pointing straight at the driver.

If you're going to town with the mobile install, then it would be worth wiring it into the radio to do the auto mute, etc. :drive:

Thanks for all your help, I fitted it on the weekend, though I bottled out pulling the hole, 'cos it looked like it was going to damage the radio fascia, and I didn't have the tools to take the radio out.

I screwed it into the left hand side of the hole, if you know what I mean, I should take a photo 'cos I am quite pleased with it :)
