You are paying for the development costs and the software updates.

They are not cheap to do. I'm sure if i was interested I could work out how to do all of the diagnostics and design a dongle and write some software to do it. I however don't have the time to reverse engineer the ecu codes and the rest.

Of course if anyone does have time to do some of it then it's a different matter and i'll set up an open source project to do it.

Just a quick update for anyone who's interested.

Got my cable today, tested with the software downloaded from Ross-Tech and the drivers provided by the ebay seller, all seems to work great  .

I'm still in serious novice mode so I won't be posting I have this in the map sticky but if anyone needs any help in my area I'll be glad to attempt to assist! ;) .

Matt

was it the free software or did you buy it?

free at the moment, need to watch the finances at the moment and just bought a new battery for my laptop so can't spend another

i remember seeing an active x control for visual basic somewhere on teh net for vag-com..... cant find it at the moment tho... might be worth a look, expecially if we could use it to remap cars, we could kind of copy and paste from and to other peoples ecu's and stuff

You cant' remap anything with VAG-COm you also cant' copy and paste one map from one car to another.

Yeha, another set of clones KWP2000 interfaces directly from China.

Hint: Go and read some chip tuning related forums and how people messed up their ECU's with this by not understanding how this whole mess works. Besides that, this does not work with EDC16, that requires BDM.
