Running PS2 off PC.

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have recently decided to change my network to wired following numerous problems with frequency conflicts.

I am still using the existing wireless router, which has four ethernet ports. In addition to four PC's, I have a PS2 and Xbox which my son uses over the net.

Is it possible (probably very unlikely) to run a network cable from one of the PC's or would it need to link directly to the router?

Thanks,

Jon.

Hi

I've got a ps2, and I've tried doing that (connecting it directly to the pc) and it didn't seem to work.

I'd suggest plugging it straight into the router.

If you're trying to reduce the number of cables running around the house get a hub or switch and plug all the devices into that then run a single cable to the router.

Alternately get a wireless gateway with a few ethernet ports near the devices and connect to that wired then wirelessly to the router.

You can run it through a PC , although obviosuly you need two network ports on it and have to have the computer tunred on for the other stuff to connect through it. AS SteVRs said you are better off getting a switch. This basically takes up one port on the router and gives you an additional 4, and you can plug more switches in if u want.

I have an old Belkin one you can have for postage cost if u want, I have used it for a while but it still looks new and works fine. If u want it just PM me.

Thanks for your advice and thank you simonsheil for your kind offer.

As I have a spare network card and lead, i'll try running it from a PC. Is there is any specific configuration or will XP work it out?

Cheers.

Pretty sure you do this. Go to your control panel and click on network connections.

Right click the NIC your PS2 is going to connect to, and go into properties.

Then on the tabs click advanced, and enable the button "Allow other network users to connect through this computers internet connection" and click ok.

Also, check your firewall is configured to allow the new NIC to work by reviewing the settings. Dont think you will have to change any TCP/IP settings tbh but you may have to turn file and printer sharing on (presumably this is already done if youve networked the PCs up). HTH

Make sure you buy a crossover ethernet rj45 cable and not anordinary ethernet rj45 cable.

These leads are for PC to PC (Xbox/PS2) data transfere.
