Help needed - Red appearing

Featured Replies

Hi all, I need some help please...

When I try to view video clips online I cant, All I get is a Red 'X' on the page in the top left area of where the video clip would be playing. Its as tho its being blocked. I have tried (with very limited technical knowledge) to view through the security settings etc on the McAfee program but havent been able to solve the problem.

It also does this with some pictures as well.

Most annoyingly tho... when on some sites like bbc, it tells me I need to download the latest 'flashplayer' to view contents on the site... when I try to do this it I need to view a short movie clip at the top of the page to confirm its been downloaded, however, because of the Red X problem I cant even see this!!

If anybody knows, or has any suggestions on how I can solve this problem please help, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Ben

Hi Ben,

there are a number of possible reasons, some of them pretty obscure, but try this ...

Open Internet Explorer, and from the menus at the top click on Tools > Internet Options.

Click on the "Advanced" tab.

Scroll down the list of options 'til you get to "Multimedia", I think it is, and chack that all the viewing options are ticked (view images, play movies etc etc).

Let me know if this helps at all :)

Hi Chris,

Thanks a lot for your response and suggestion..

I had a look and unfortunately that hasnt solved it, it was all ticked apart from 'show image placeholders' so I ticked it anyway but still same problem.

Its REALLY annoying me now!!

Thanks again, if you have any other ideas let me know!

Ben

Hi,

I presume you are trying to view them through IE. Try another bowser ( firefox / deepenet etc ) to confirm it is indeed a setting / a plugin issue within IE.

I would also turn off all yer firewall / antivirus gubins for the minute or so it takes to download and run the latest flash from macromedia. especialy if you are a little unsure of their settings. It would also be advantageous to try turning off these whilst trying a test video for a short period.

Defo sounds like a flash plugin issue. Hope that helps some and let me know how you get on.

Holler if you have any more questions.,

Thanks for the reply.....

You have indirectly solved the problem!

I tried dowloading the Firefox browser only to be told that I didnt have the required 'privileges', which made me think about user accounts.

Had a look in there and was only shown as limited user, reset it to computer administrator and hey presto its solved!

A bit odd tho that it was changed but not complaining now its working.... I only hope this iwas the long term fix and that it wont happen again!

Thanks Again.

Ben

You can't display images as a standard user and have to be root?

WTF!
