Buying advice for newbie

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm not a Skoda owner (yet!) but I joined in order to ask you guys for some advice.

I'm currently the not so proud owner of an old 1993 BMW 318iS coupe and I'm looking at buying a vRS in the next 5 months.

Basically I'm currently torn between the Mk1 Octavia vRS or the Fabia vRS.

What puts me off about the Fabia is the potentially poor handling, and what puts me off about the Octavia is the fact it's not going to give me TDi fuel economy (I commute 32 miles each way to work).

Inusrance wise oddly enough there's not much in it.

The Octavia has a nicer interior (and more kit as stamdard) and is going to be quicker to 60 etc, but I'm concerned about it being poo on fuel with it being a turbocharged petrol.

The Fabia's interior looks ok, albeit a tad minimalist but will provide more real world grunt and far superior mpg. It's just the worries of roly poly handling that are concerning me!

So, what are your opinions guys? I know they're going to be like chalk and cheese but it would be nice to hear some thoughts from people with experience!

Thanks,

Chris.

Must be Yellow..............And welcome to Briskoda...:)

Being a Fabia vRS owner, I bought it for fuel economy (I do a daily commute of 50 miles with several visits to different offices each month). The handling can be sorted for around £210 with a Jabba Sport read ARB (Just got mine need to be fitted!). It's a great car but it is the little brother of the Octy vRS.

Given the choice and money not an issue I'd have the MK1 Octy, I think some other Fabia vRS owners would agree.

Perhaps if your budget strectches too it the new Octy vRS (diesel version) may interest you??

LOL. Many thanks for the replies guys. I must admit, I am edging towards the Fabia and have been since the beginning, but after reading a few reviews that slated the handling and after seeing pics of the Octy's interior (which is very nice) I started having doubts.

The Fabias engine is what appeals.....I've driven a Golf GTi with the same one and I had a huge grin on my face. :)

Well its faster than a Golf and a lot better value. AND it holds its price better. Need I go on. You decide. WE ARE ALL BIASED OF COURSE but we know what we are talking about!!;)

If your going to blow the budget fuel wise then get a Mk2 Octy vRS, if initial budget won't stretch to this then get the Fabia. Only needs the handling mods if you are going to be seriously chucking it about, (must get to Jabba) :D
