Have any of you filled up with Shell V-Power yet?

Featured Replies

I notice that Shell Optimax has been replaced with Shell V-Power and the octane increased from 98 to 99 RON. Have any of you used it yet?

I filled up my vRS with it for the first time on Saturday and it seems as perky and frugal as Optimax although it's too early to tell whether it has made much of a difference.

Yes - 40 litres of it on Friday night and a bottle of octane booster for the fun at Trax - wish I could afford to always run the car on this combination :D

Mine has had nothing but Optimax from new. Now that V-Power has been introdced can't say that I've noticed a difference but it's only had two full tanks so may be a little early to tell.

I have used it everyday for a year in Spain, this weekend filled up with 10e (respsol) and some other high power diesel and the V-Power is still the best

Old man filled mine up with it the other day but tbh i think it was still Optimax just rebranded so ill have to wait and see when i fill up again

If you look at the pumps (closely) and take note of the BS numbers... they are still the same as when it was Optimax that was coming out of them...

I have used two tank fulls this weekend, in combination with another "tweak" I have noticed my MPG is up. I averaged 70mph coming back from hants this morning (dark o'clock) and got 31.7mpg (filled up on A34 just after Winchester - reset mfa, then took the reading as I exited the M6 J21, after a "brisk" drive up a deserted M6 Toll).

This week I have done just over 1500 miles in total, all on Vpower and the MPG on trip 2 is showing as an outstanding (imho for how the drivings been done) 34.1mpg

Throttle response is better to, but that may be because of the lump of carbon masquerading as an air intake (as could the increased mpg I suppose)

I heard that they've been rolling out V-Power for a few weeks to flush the tanks of Optimax so we've probably been using it unknowingly.

I am on my 3rd tankful of V-Power. I have no idea if it makes much difference as I am still running the standard map

As for mpg - again no idea - on my last 'spirited' drive through the North Devon coast I averaged 24.6 mpg   (was a good fun drive though  )

That's interesting, where did you hear that from? That was one of main ponderings - wondering if I'd have to wait a while before trying the new stuff out, let the old stuff flow it's way out of the tanks :D

I'd be after the V-Power diesel now though...

There used to be a theory that Optimax was administered at the pump end, not in the tank. If that's the case, flushing the tanks would make no difference.

Also, I'm never very convinced about this idea that you have to run 3 tankfuls of a fuel through your engine before it wakes up and notices the difference. I find it's pretty much instantaneous with mine  Since the fuel is circulating to and from the tank, it will mix in pretty quickly, especially if the tank was close to empty at the start, and if you drive the car reasonably aggressively, the ECU should start adapting straight away. JMHO.

The fuel is made up of additives at source. Lots of fuel of all brands comes from the same depots it's only the additive package that changes. There is an agreement between the major suppliers to 'share' fuel.

Hi Stu

This is the norm, however, Optimax and now V-Power are shipped nationally from one refinery only if Shell are to be believed. It certainly smells different to anything else I have used.
