i dont think so

Whereabouts is the hissing coming from? I don't think it should hiss, but if the air con isn't chucking out cold air, something is definitely wrong :D

a title for a new hit movie...."snakes in a car"

on a serious note...no

I tend to think a hissing noise is never a good thing.

When I had this problem , there was a hisisng noise and no chiiled air. The dealer investigated this and found a leak in the system.

All fine now, but for to happen on a 56 plate seems strange to me, just take it back and let them sort it out.

hissing coming from dash & vents when aircon turned on

I don't think it should sound like that either. My 06 Furby doesn't make that sound.

I did have two Volvos and a Nissan that did somethign similar after awhile. They both had leaks and the Volvos both needed a new condensor (I think that's what it was) and a number of other things. All three made hissing sounds in the dash and it apparently was a sign of low R134a.

Apparently, when the pressure lowers it starts to make that sound. In the Nissan it was constant, in the Volvos it was intermitant - like the gas was being pumped in and every second or so "spilling" into the condesor in the cabin of the car. The Volvos would still pump out cold air for some time like that. Nissan, hardly.
