Adaptive ECU

Featured Replies

 I have heard a lot on here that the ECU adapts to your driving, does this happen quickly? or does it do it over the life of the car? if I am on the motorway cruising and then take the B Roads what happens, and what does it change in the ECU? Any technical bods out there that can help ? (Lummox the oracle?) ;)

The way I understand it is, if you "Floor" the car every time the accelorater pedel is pressed the car will be ready every time 'cos it's "expecting it".....Press it slowly all the time and thats what you'll get...You can "Teach" it so it responds to the way you drive....No dout I'm wrong but it sounds good............:)

so what you are saying is that it is constantly monitoring the way you drive and changing to adapt to you style every minute?

As I understand it, it has an overlay of "adaptive fine tunings" for all the parameters in the ECU's map. If you reset the ECU and clear these tunings then the car goes into rapid learning mode and adjusts the fine tunings to optimise performance and economy I believe. During the rapid learning, you can significantly change how the car behaves by driving it like it was stolen or driving it like a granny.

The car continues to learn all the time and tweaks the fine tunings, but it will be much less noticeable.....

I belive so .......................perhaps not every minute but i think it keeps adapting..If it goes in for a service you may find it is not as responsive as it will need re-teaching.....I think
