VRS Alloy Wheels

Featured Replies

Hi

Courtesy of Derbyshire County Council's road maintenance programme I dropped a wheel into a pot hole and it's bent the rim (and I'm about to get a new tyre). Anyone know of any (cheaper than dealer) source of new alloy wheels?

Thanks

Mick

Go and take pictures of the pothole. Don't know the exact rules but the council has to pay for damage caused by neglect of road surface, so it might be worth pursuing this.

:Yikes: I've had some experience with this and the council have a statutory defence. Basically unless you can sufficiently prove they have been negligent in allowing the road surface to deteriorate they don't have to/won't pay

So unless someone else has reported a problem and they've failed to repair it (within 24 -48 hours I think) then you may struggle to prove negligence on their behalf. Worth asking about the road inspection policy and a schedule of inspection dates for the road if you do pursue it. When I tried to get some money from them the council basically gave me a big fat :finger:.

It's worth asking about it though

Did you report the pothole to the council so it doesn't happen to anyone else??

If you haven't yet reported it and can still drive on the wheel it may be worth getting someone to report the pothole and then write to the council and say the incident caused damage the day after your friend reported the pothole!:nervous: - obviously this would be morally wrong though!!

Oh and definately worth taking pics of the pothole.

Almost worth a website to document such things... :)

Send a letter and or e-mail to the councils' highways depts linking to some photos on the web...

It sort of becomes a community thing. If someone's already reported it, you get the benefit. If you report it and someone else's wheel/tyre gets bent then they may have a case.

J.

i know someone who did this in a pub car park and it blew the tyre of thier VRS. I don't think they even told the lanlord about it but if it was me I would pursue for the landlord to pay th bill.

Yes; you might be able to get the Council to pay.

Your original question was where to get wheels cheap? You will only get a new one from a dealer, about £125 (plus VAT?). However secondhand ones are easily found either from a 'breakers' - or on e-bay!
