Brakes for VRS

Featured Replies

Hello, I have just been to Skoda for a pre mot check. They said that the front brake discs were corroded and they would fail the mot. This has been a real blessing, as I was going to upgrade the brakes anyway. I can now justify the expense with 'the boss!'

However, I have been reading through some past threads about discs and pads. I am not sure whether to put oem discs on with ferodo pads or upgrade the discs as well. Here is where I am hoping some kind Briskodians can help me out. In your experience with brake changes. Is it worth upgrading the discs and pads or just the pads? As the brakes as standard felt pretty good. But I am looking to go for a re map soon and thought I might as well plan in advance and get the correct set up now. Rather than having to upgrade again once the re map in installed.

Cheers Matt

I tend to just uprate pads and fluid with OEM discs. However, a popular mod is the 312mm kit which replaces the calipers, discs and pads and apparently offers significant braking performance over the standard set up.....

The 312mm kit does look very tempting and easy to fit. I take it that there have been no 'running issues' with the upgrade or anything like that?

There does not seem to be many after market pads and discs listed for the VRS yet. I would have thought that as the car has been out now for 3 years. That most manufacturers would have already made some after market pads and discs.

I've got the Ferodo pads with OEM discs and they are fine; give better bite and take away the sponginess of the standard set-up.

I have had uprated discs/pads on previous cars and frankly their improved performance only got used when driving at speeds more suited to track!

A middle option, as opposed to the 312mm (Audi TT) brakes would be some OEM size but grooved discs; I believe Black Diamond do a set that are not too pricy, with Ferodo pads. Got to think of the 'boss'.

There is a guide to fitting 312mm brakes on this very site :)

The 312mm upgrade is the best mod I have done to my car. They are head and shoulders above the originals and are even good on the track. The cost is really good at around

Thanks everyone. You have helped me no end:thumbup:

I had my 312mm discs fitted today. What a difference, the brakes are now far more powerful, but what is more important to me is that they have some "feel" and sensitivity which I found lacking in the standard set up. Highly recommended.

The 312mm upgrade is definately the way to go. A few months back I spent

Does anyone know what the minimum disc width is on the front for the VRS before they need changing? If mine are okay for the MOT, I will wait and get the 312mm setup fitted later.
