My Corsa has its first detail!

Featured Replies

(Shamelessly copied and pasted from my detailing world thread :P )

Decided to put all my new kit to us on my 8 day, 800mile old Corsa. Its misty grey pearl, and has plentiful fine swirls, and quite a few random deeper scratches courtesey of the dealer valeters mad.gif

Heres the only swirl piccy I could get.

A couple of wheel befores:

And a quick, pretty underwhelming "before" reflection shot.

Having never really detailed a car before, didn't really know what I was doing - so anyway, here's what I did.

  • Rinsed with watering can
  • Washed using Megs Gold Class shampoo, 2 bucket method with a grit guard in the wash bucket, brand new Eurow wash mitt.
  • Rinsed with the watering can
  • Then clayed using Sonus Mild Green, and Megs LT diluted 1:1. My first time claying, seemed to go well. Suprisingly picked up quite a bit for a brand new car.

  • Then washed again, rinsed with watering can
  • Dried with Sonus WW towell
  • Polished with AG SRP, applied with yellow foam pad, removed with a Sonus MF
  • Then waxed with Swi55ol Onyx, buffed off with a new Sonus MF
  • Windows cleaned with Megs Glass cleaner
  • Exhaust tip done with Autosol and an old MF

I'm fairly happy with the finish. Not jaw dropping, but a nice gloss to the paint, no visible swirls anymore, and it has a lovely sheen. The flake doesnt pop out as much as I'd like - but this will have to do until I can afford a PC...

Mandatory tree shot - although tree is about 50m away!

I took each wheel off to give em a good clean and protect. They were covered in some brown coloured waxy stuff... the only way I could get it off was to polish em with AG SRP... The process I used on the wheels:

  • Washed with Eurow mitt, Megs Gold Class shampoo
  • Dried with old ww towel
  • Polished with AG SRP
  • Given 2 coats of PB WS inside and out
  • Tyres dressed with AG Tyre Dressing... not totally keen on the product, so looking for alternatives.

Overall, not bad for 5 hrs work.

I want a PC to get rid of the remaining marks, and also considering trying a glaze too - Vanilla Moose seems to be highly commended - will definitely be trying it.

One last query - only had AG Tyre Dressing, so used that for all the trim, but it didn't bring it up too well, and the strips on the doors are very flat and just look streaky - any ideas?

Thanks for looking!

Did I read all new Corsas have a comedy shark shape moulded into the inside of the glovebox?

Something to do with a bet between the designers to sneak a shark shape into the production run?

(car looks nice btw!)

Nice one  Wanna do mine? ...swirls everywhere

A what  lol just kidding.

Looking good mate, nice colour.

Bring your gear on Friday week and you do all of ours before we go home.

if it wasn't for the main shot of the corsa, you could have had a game of guess the car
