I agree with the cruise control though' date=' it's not often you can use it for any period of time unless it's 3 in the morning.[/quote']

Really?

Where do you live?

I use mine every day on all sorts of roads.

The longest I've done was from J19 of the M6 by manchester nearly all the way to Birmingham without turning it off , and that was on a weekday afternoon

Only place I found it useful on the M6 South was through the Roadworks, that used to be by J17-J15. Having said that I occassionally manage J19 to Knutsford Services ;)

Depends on what speed you're driving at I guess. I'm looking forwards to getting cruise control on my Octy!

Agreed. If you're not hoofing it, you can leave the cruise on for miles. Use mine all the time. Get better mpg too.

I also like the Mk 2's CD autochanger - hidden and easier to load than the Mk. 1

I live on the south coast and travel to the Luton/M.K. area every day. Trust me, unless you are doing 45 mph the cruise control is useless most times of the day.

It's even a waste of time through the SPECS as people slow down to 30 odd for the cameras

Agreed - almost the only place I turn mine on is the M23 and then I am forever slowly catching someone up. On long empty interstates a much higher percentage of vehicles are using cruise so you can often judge that the guy in front has set his to a speed you are happy with, so you just tail him mile after mile. Don't often find that here.

I love the idea of the infinite variable wipe speed control, how big would that be?! :D

Should have bought a favorit then, our GLXIe had this feature. You had to push the wiper stalk up and then straight off again after the wipe and then you pushed the wiper stalk up and left on after the desired time had elapsed. This length of time was the new interval. Should have kept it imo

What a good idea. Wonder why they stopped it?

I use the cruise quite a bit on longer journeys as and when traffic allows. Its easy to cancel it using a quick dab of the brakes

I also had it in my VW Vento. Pretty nice feature. I read somewhere, that it was discontinued because the average driver couldn't learn how to use it (read: didn't bother to look at the manual). Then they complained about not having an adjustable wiper speed.

:iagree: More than likely. Too complicated for most considering indicators seem to be too much to handle these days.

My new Corsa has infinitely adjustable wipers a'la the Favorit. A great feature.

I think its the little things you miss most. For example, I don't miss my heated seats - but I really miss fan jet washers. I think climatic and climatronic aren't all that either, nowt wrong with regular air con. As for dual zone - gimmick imho.

I do miss having a trip computer for sure. Cruise is ace - not a day passed when I didn't use it. I'm yet to drive a car with auto wipers that work well, although my Megane had auto lights and they were faultless - really did work well imho. Never turned repeatedly on/off.

One thing I do like, is lots of posh lighting. Footwell lighting, puddle lights, headlining lights etc. They are not only pretty useful, they also make a car seem much classier.

I shouldn't comment, never having used that method, but I still like the idea of a good old fashioned control you just set straight to the desired speed. The above sounds okay for setting an initial speed but I'm sure nothing is easier than a wiper speed change by turning the control one click up or down.

Straight forward climate control is pretty good. Pure a/c can get too cold in the UK and most people have a favourite "feel right" temp. Once you set that on your climate control you can forget it all day.

Now you see where I was coming from when doing the 'Footwell Lighting' Mod to the fabia  :D

Must have climatronic .....no more fiddling ....no more messing about ...just set the temperature and forget it......brilliant

You mustn't have a GF that constantly needs to be a different temperature to you then! Dual zone is invaluable in my car as in previous motors we always fought over the temperature controls

L&K 2.0Tdi DSG

Heated Leather Seats - great, warm in winter, cool in summer

Light Assist - great now the program has been sorted out by Skoda UK working with Dealer!

Dual Climate Control - no more arguments with wife and "set & forget" is just so nice.

Auto wipers - fine 90% of the time, can cope with manual intervention for other 10%.

Maxidot - just nice to have for journey info and comparison mpg; amazing how driving 10% more gently improves mpg by 20%+.

Memory electric seats - wonderful as once you have "memorized" your seat and mirror positions it is set for life - one for me, one for wife and an extra one for dealer!

Parking assist passenger mirror - great for reversing into narrow parralel parking spaces coupled with...

Rear proximity sensors - how did I manage before in very tight spaces? Converts 5 point turns to safe 3 point turns.

Safety features - curtain air bags, tyre pressure monitors, stability control - haven't had to use as yet but reassuring knowing they are there "just in case"

Cruise control - use it almost daily. Holds 40mph in restricted areas and on the motorway set at 75-80 and rest your left foot on the convenient foot-rest. Drove to Cornwall (not in rush holiday period) and it was on cruise for most of the way.

Generally I use all the toys and would hate to lose any of them - just makes driving life that little bit easier.

Things I would like - somewhere to plug in my ipod (latest models have it) have to use the mini transmitter system which is okay but not as good as a direct connection.

Hi,

I am close to buying an Octavia probably the 2.0 Tdi Elegance. Other choice would be similar Golf.

Question is the Golf (whole range) has Electronic Stability Control as standard. It is a

Which golf, many have climatic air con, which isn't proper dual zone climate control, unlike the Octy Elegance which has that.

ESP is nice if you like that sort of thing.

The octy is the first car of any sort that has had any electrical safety toys, it just depends on how you drive although ESP will probably help you deal with other drivers driving like idiots.

The safety gadgets/electronics IMHO should be standard on all cars, the likes of ESP, ABS, Traction Control, Side/Front/Rear/Curtain Airbags, anything that is going to save your or a passengers life in case of an impact.

ESP is nice if you like that sort of thing.

What sort of thing?....living?:D

I don't consider myself a gadget freak but I've ordered a few of them:

Xenon Lights: More then useful! Highly recomendable!

Leather steering wheel: If you pay so much for a car, add some change for it. It does make a difference. ;)

Cruse Control: Perfect thing for long motorway drives!

Audience system: If you are a music freak as I am, don't miss it! :D

Tow bar: Good for the back kicks! (saved me ones)

Dual climate: Haven't had much use of it! :thumbdwn:

Auto wipers: Works well for me.

Package for lousy roads: Now that is the most important where i live!

That is about it! I would buy them all again if i have to choose now!

Cheers!

Or dying if you then get in another car without it orit breaks and you take a corner too quickly because you are used to the computer doing the brain work for you.

I "treated" myself to cruise control when I bought mine.

Now wouldn't be without it. Use it the whole time.
