Gear stick Rattle in Neutral Back again!!!

Featured Replies

I had this sorted about 3 month ago and now its back. They said they had tightened the Gear Cables?? and it did stop the rattling sound but it made the gear stick vibrate, but I didi not mind this.

I 'm guessing the cable sare now loose agian, possibly streched slighty due to them being new and all:D

I notice that pushing the gear stick forward or left and right stops the noise as it didi before.

Can anyone tell me if there is anything else they can do that will permanently fix this problem.

Also, my pedles and steering creak, and sometimes this is exaggerated when used toghether (sterring and Clutch). Do you think they will be able to sort this? and does anyone have the same issues?

There was a modified part for the gear lever linkage I believe so worth checking if they did this or did literally just tighten the old ones up :D

They definitly said they tightened them up. I have left it a couple of months as I am building up a list so they can sort everything at once (not a big list mind you, just minor problems)

I will definitly say about the modified part for the gear linkage tho.

My car went into the garage to have this sorted today. Only just picked it up.

They ordered new cables or something for it. Didn't make any difference, it still does it!

Mine is doing it intermittantly after being silent for 3 months, aparently reseating an engine mount cured it. Will have it looked at the service.

my gear stick rattles still after it has been in about 4 months ago. ive heard cables fix the problem but not quite sure. you can stop it by playing with the gear stick and make it vibrate too

Just as a experiment just try raising the idle just a touch with the accelerator and see if the vibrations stops. try and get a couple of hundred RPM at most. It is possible to reset the idle with diagnostic equipment and ive found by upping the idle a touch it stops the vibration.

However this isnt a Skoda fix, just something ive tried.

I had the modified part on mine. It fixed the vibration for about 12 months, but now it's sneaking back again.

My clutch creeks- took it in to get it sorted and they said its the clutch switch. Maybe it could be that.

Mine's just been in for the vibrating gear stick in neutral. They fitted a modified something or other and it's completely cured it. Whilst I was there, they fixed the squeak coming from the rear with a modified something or other on the handbrake and tomorrow I'm going in for my 10000 service and for them to fit a modified something or other for one of my horns which has stopped working. The guy at SMC in Exeter rang me up on friday and said to come in as he had the horn !!!!

Skoda do seem to have lots of modified thingies in their parts department !

after suggestion by lummox to increase revs at idle it seems to make it less of a problem. Although it does not seem to be as bad now anyway. I didi have to top the oil up as it was nearly minimum, doubt that would make any difference.

Still have to go to dealer about pedals and steering creaking

Any official service bulletin re this modified part?

How can I tell a dealer what it is? You'd think they'd know of course!

If you speak to dealer they should know about it as there is a "bulletin" for this problem.

I had mine done the other week with limited success but better than it has been in the past.

As you see from the rest of this thread its not quite clear what is actually done to the car, my warranty sheet says "adjusted gearshift mechanism" but originally I thought new parts were being fitted as it was booked in for 3 hours?

Good luck!

My story is the same as yours so far.

The first dealer 'Sparshatts of Fareham' said they'd never encountered the fault before and that there was no such thing as a fix / modified part. They adjusted the mechanism and made my gearbox feel horrible ... all the gears felt like they were in different places for some reason.

Freeborn in Southampton said they had encoutnered it before and knew what I was on about, but they made no reference to an official fix. Again, they altered the linkage etc and things 'feel' normal again but still rattle occasionally.

I have this problem with my new SE as well. Slightly annoying. I also get the common glove box rattle when accelerating, thats worse!

Has anyone else had glovebox rattle cured by their dealer?

Nope, my wing mirrors rattle if they're in a funny mood though.
