vRS- How often are you topping up your oil?

Featured Replies

I didnt realise how quick the oil needs topping up or is that just the way I drive. After 4 months of buying the car I was topping up already. Now to me I thought that it was quite soon to be topping up but it was at the minimum line. And, its so expensive to buy. Where's the cheapest place you've bought yours?

Checking weekly*, topping up once every couple of months.

Don't let it get near the minimum line, nor over the max ;)

* had quite a few VTECs in my time, so it is a legacy behaviour to check weekly lol

VAG TDis are notorious for using oil early in their life. It usually settles down by 10,000 miles though. I'm using the equivalent of about 1l of oil every 5,000 miles at the moment. Check it weekly, at least.

don't think i've ever needed to top up the oil in my VRS , even after beng thrashed to the Ring and back it never used any , but i change the oil every 2.5k mles anyway so perhaps its not in there long enough to get burnt off

never had to top mine up :)

Once in 30000 miles. Pleased with that.

Never topped up mine either, 7500 miles.

Not had to top up the wifes vRS or my Octavia vRS as yet.

I think its a trait of the PD engine during its early life that it uses oil as the components bed in. My 2.0 TDi PD is on 14K miles and the dealer advised to keep an eye on the oil as it will use some for the next 5K or so miles apparently.

Added a litre between 0 and 10,000 Miles. None between 10,000 - 20,000.

Added half a litre at about 9,000, non since.

Mines on 10k now but in the 14 months I've only put some in once and that was a teaspoonful. Very impressed how good it is on oil.

Some say how they're driven early on makes the difference, plenty of mid range light load revs with a few regular high speed bursts makes the rings seal better.

Too slow run in will result in a higher oil consumption thereafter.

Half a litre in 10000 miles

Seems like I may have a problem then- I put in a litre at 4000 miles. No signs of leaky oil though.Maybe I should get it checked out.

I doubt you'll have a problem... some use some, some don't, see how it goes over the next 10k.....

as greybeard says, it may depend on how it's run in... I drove mine as normal from new......

Never put any in the Fabia (6300 miles old) or the Octy II (2100 miles old)

Maybe 0.5-1 Litre between 10k-20k, but not a drop since, now on 46k+

300ml in first 10k miles

My 06 VRS was at minimum at 4500 miles, had to top up.

My 55 plater used very little to begin with, then used a total of around 3/4 of a litre up to 10000 miles. It has now settled down to using around 1/2 a litre every 10000 miles, so if on full mark at service wont need topping up at all between. Currently around 43000 and going well. Considering its use as a driving school car, I reckon this is pretty good.

Chris

Mine generally needs topping up once between the 10k service interval - now at 40k
