anyone?

I guess there aren't that many 1.4 TDI owners around at the moment.

On the 1.9 TDIs, the turbo is reckoned to be up to speed by 1900 rpm, but will be making some contribution from revs as low as 1500 rpm. On some remapped cars, you can hear the turbo starting to work on tickover!

Hi All

Turbo works all the time, it only get's proper boost at certain point. :)

As far as i know on 1.4 it kicks in later then 1.9 you should be able to feel that point when accelerating from 1000 rpm(which isn't so good for the clutch/engine/turbo).

Max torque is developed at 2200 rpm by the 75hp 1.4TDi engine.

so i guess it kicks in fully @ 2,200rpm which i think it might have done when i floored it at the bottom of babylon hill, it must of been around that revs the extra power was noticed..... i guess patience is needed, as I will be picking it up on tueday mourning. I guess I will get to know it better then, i was thinking if i refrain from kicking the turbo in fully when driving around town, i will save on fuel :D just wanted to know when it kicks in fully to better judge gear changes :D

I was impressed how the turbo helps in accellerating and pulling up hills etc. Though only a 1.4TDi I was pleased with it's performance. Also will help my economy as i was getting 38mpg from my felicia i hope to be getting 55mpg from this one :D maybe more.

In a way i am glad i didn't go for a VRS as I am sure i will loose my licence soon after getting it, as this one seems to have enough zest for the type of driving I do.

Q

A very light right foot will help fuel economy more than lugging the engine by changing up at 1500 rpm.

On my 1.9 I can get 55mpg by accelerating slowly and changing up at around 2000-2500 rpm. Takes ages to get from A to B that way.

My parents have a 2006 Polo 1.4TDi and they seem to be getting over 60MPG regularly.

Thats good advice, i noticed that i did not have to put my foot down to get going in this motor, when i did, the acceleration was agreeable.

Further more, I hope i can get 60mpg, but the driving i do is around town and yeovil to sherbourne and back (7miles) during a normal week and the occassional trip to Exeter (110miles round trip) or Portishead (140miles round trip) at least once a month.

I will keep your advice fresh in my noggin!! :D Thank You
