DIY - Octy RS Rear pads & discs

Featured Replies

I'm looking to replace the rear disks and pads on my octy RS myself and I have read that the rear caliper pistons need turning as well as pushing back in to the caliper body?? Has anyone experience of this and if so which way do you turn the caliper pistons?

Is a special tool necessary or can I just leaver the pistons back using a bar against the old discs?

You will need a caliper wind back tool.

Did a set last weekend. Ignore the "Haynes handy hint" in the Haynes manual as its a load of balls.

Buy the propper wind back tool, wind the piston clockwise.

Job done in 30mins per side.

Lads is this the same tool as used on the calipers of most Fords, I've still got the one I used on my Sierra 4x4.

It has 4 "raised" points on the 150mm piston contact area? Plus Clockwise it goes

the octavia one has 2 knotches in the piston, so you'll need a tool that has 2 pins in it about 1 1/2" apart.

Sounds like we're talking about the same tool here.

I'll try my one, if it means grinding off two of the raised points, then so be it.

Won't be needing to do any brake work on a Sierrra again!
