Copying numbered text in word

Featured Replies

Hope someone can help me with this. I have a word file at work which is fully numbered, ie section 1.3.1 etc.

Now this file is 500 pages long and a lot of it does not apply to us. Therefore I want to copy the clauses we need into a document which will be much smaller. However I want to keep the same numbers as is assigned in the full doucment.

My problem is I cannot stop word automatically renumbering the text when I copy it. I don't really want to have to type all the numbers in by hand so was wondering if it is possible to force work to keep the numbers I copy.

Mine doesn't do that when pasted into a new document. If you are pasting into the middle of another numbered list, it may take the numbering from the section it's pasted into. Try putting a section break at the beginning of each new bit you paste in.

must be my machine then, even posting into a new doucment it restarts the numbering

When you copy the text, instead of doing a paste, go to Edit then paste special instead and choose unformatted text.

Thanks for the help, ended up doing unformatted then formatting manualy, not ideal but could not get it any other way.
