Laurin & Klement Alloys

Featured Replies

:) I am looking at buying my first Skoda, probably an Octavia L & K 1.9TDI DSG as I was very impressed on a test drive but I have a gripe. The standard alloys for the L & K versions are apalling, very simple with no style at all. They look rough. The two dealers I have visited had both changed the alloys on the L & K demonstrators, I wonder why? It seems wrong that faced with the cost of a new car it is immediately neccesary to shell out £400 or more to get a decent pair of alloys and what do they do with the ones taken off?. Anyone else feel the same, are any changes to these alloys likely. Any help appreciated.................Graham Luke:

Try getting a set of 17" pegasus alloys thrown in with the deal, never know you might get lucky:D

I have to say I think they look okay. Easy to clean too.

Perhaps they will grow on you?

Just the same as the Elegance alloys arent they?

Yes, standard are the 16" Vega alloys.

You would have thought the L&K would come with unique alloys to signify the top of the range model.

A bit like what they did with the Mk.1 maybe???

I agree. Surprised it doesn't come with the 17" pegasus given that they're on the sport version. However, if you do opt for the pegasus wheels, you get sports suspension too.

The MK1 alloys werent really all the unique, just a fancy colour and IIRC the early ones were the same anyhow.

That's exactly what I did as I didn't like the look of the standard alloys and also agreed with comments in other threads that the 16" wheels look too small in the arches.

The clincher was I had a go in a sport model and liked the handling :D

Don't forget you can now opt for the Pegasus wheels with OR without the sports suspension.

Given the choice I would still have both but that's just my opinion. :)

I still think the L&K should have unique wheels to signify it's the flagship model.

Sticking the Vega wheels on was just plain lazy or more likely a cost saving excercise.

get a decent pair of alloys
What are you thinking here - different wheels each side, or front and back ?

The old L&K also had xenons as std. we priced out adding extras to the L&K & went for a Superb in the end, all the goodies as std + a load more that arent even listed for the L&K & all for under £18000

The superb is indeed a very well specced car, bi-xenons AND sat nav as standard on the Elegance.

If only they did an estate version :D

Depends what you want it for, OK you cant get a washing Machine in the Superb but the boot will swallow up as much as the Mk1 Octy estate with the seats up, just depends on the size of the items you are carying

Superb even has a diesel particulate filter at no extra (up front) cost

Don't forget cars generally get more toys thrown on them as they approach the end of their life cycle.

 I asked for the 17" Pegasus alloys option in the opinion that it automatically came with sports suspension! I hope I've not missed out on the sports suspension as a results of this. :(

From what I was told when I was dealing with the Fabia they can alter the spec rite upto the last moment, so if car not due till december, get onto dealer and he may be able to help you. HTH

The price of the Pegasus option will give you a clue whether it's got sports suspension or not.

I'll enquire tomorrow. Never thought that buying a new car could be so stressful / uncertain . . . seems to be worse than buying a used car!

Yeah but it's all worth it when you first clap eyes on your shiny new car

Nooooooo!!. Maybe it's my age, but I love the alloys on the L&K.

No disrespect to Elegance drivers with Vega's but I don't think they are the greatest design in the world.

The L&K really needs some unique 17's in a darker alloy like the mk.1

Just checked - the car was ordered with sports suspension and 17" wheels. :)

Delivery still confirmed as being in December though. :(
