Hello everyone. I have a problem with the rear door lock of a 5-door hatchback Skoda Favorit GLX. Basically, it's stuck.

Apparently someone slammed the door or did something to it but the lock is no longer working. Putting in the key and turning has no effect, and it remains locked shut. I'd like to dismantle it but I don't want to do so at random and damage it more than it is. I tried to find schematic diagrams of this lock online, to no avail.

Do you think you can help? It really is quite a hassle un/loading everything through the side doors .

I don't have a Favorit, so I'm not sure if I can help. What have you tried so far? I'm thinking that, if you believe the problem might have been caused by slamming it shut, can you drop the seats flat to get to the bootlid from the inside?

If the key does actually turn, can you tell if it's turning the lock? If so, I'm wondering if a push from the inside at the same time might do it? You'd have to be careful in case it does work, to be sure that you don't knock out the person with the key if the bootlid goes flying up of course.

There are lots of experts on here who know far more than I, so a more knowledgeable reply might follow

We did try to get to it from the inside, but only got as far as removing the plastic cover. With the door we can't use a screwdriver to actually dismantle the lock as it won't fit. The door needs to be open for us to do that.

When the key is turned it doesn't seem to have any effect on the internal pieces. I guess it's the piece that links they key to the actual lock that's broken, or out of place. And we don't want to poke at pieces at random: a broken lock is worse than one which is stuck shut.

There won't be any problem of the boot lid going flying up though, since the pistons that push it automatically up have long ceased to be useful

Climb in the boot through the seat's.Where the lock is there should be a plastic cover which should just unclip.You should be able to push the release with a screw-driver from inside.Does your car have an internal release lever by the drivers seat ? most GLX's do.If so then you can use the bit attached to the cable on the lock to unlock the boot.Hope that does not sound to gobble-de-goop !

p.s. it is very unflattering stuck in the boot with you legs stuck across the seats !

The only way you can do it is to get your hands behind the door trim panel and open the door from inside the panel. It is difficult and a bit restricted but it can be done i've done it loads of times.

After adding copious amounts of oil to the locking mechanism, I jiggled around the metal bar moving the actual lock, with a screwdriver. It is the final part of the lock: the small cylinder being pushed by the spring activated by turning the key. I pushed it and heard the lock move. Dad pulled the door up and hey presto! it was open.
