Speedo Accuracy

Featured Replies

What are peoples experience with the accuracy of speedos on vRS's

According to my sat nav mine is around 5mph slow at 70mph??

I checked the satnav against the speedo in my dads Picasso (digital speedo) and his reads 2 mph slow.

Whats your experince??

Keith

my VRS is about 3mph out at 60mph and 4mph out at 70 mph according to Road Angel Compact

I've not got a VRS, but when I've tested mine against Garmin and Navman sat nav it appears to be 5-6mph out at 70....

That sounds about right to me

My Talex says the same. GPS are 'bang on'! At least our speedos are reading under!!;)

Most car speedos read about 4-6mph fast, eg when the speedo reads 40 your GPS will probably show about 36, which will be correct. It's against the law for them to read slow, so the manufacturer's make sure any error is on the right side.

There are other influences on the speedo accuracy. Tyre pressures and tread depth also play a part.

Even GPSes don't agree with each other - allow at least +/- 1 mph when taking your "10%+2".

About 3% out for me, but I'm running marginally bigger 17" with 205/40 which is about 2% bigger than the 16" with 205/45 tyre. :)

Mine read

56 at 60mph (GPS)

97 at 100 GPS

115 at 119 GPS

122 at 125 GPS (downhillish)

Standard PD100 on VRS wheels.

I never checked at 30

It seems to be consistantly around 3-5 down when I tested it on my private road

My friend's R32 Skyline is almost bang on at 70, even though its had a KPH>MPH conversion on it.
