how do they know you need a new flywheel?? have they allready taken out the gearbox to check?? if they have it's only six bolts, they cost about 150 quid new, but you can get them on exchange for less but i cant remmber how much at the moment

For the dealer to fit a flywheel will cost between

they `know` because its making a terrible knocking noise on idle and when clutch is dipped it goes away. thats what i was told, another garage said its the clutch and possibly gearbox that needs changing...thousnads of pounds:(:(:(

Is it mapped?

If so then unlucky. If not then you will need to pursue a claim firstly with the garage and then if that fails via SUK.

What age/mileage is you car? Has it got a full SUK Service History?

ah i see! that still doesn't necessarily men that the flywheel is duff tho! why would dipping the clutch make any difference?? the flywheel is still connected to the engine so it would still knock....

To be honest if the flywheel has gone it usually damages the clutch as well.

The flywheel will vibrate under acceleration and rattle on deacceleration.

no its never been remapped, it has had full skoda uk services from new and its an 03 model with 44000 miles, i have ran out of warranty in july 27 this year which is very annoying as the garage is being unhelpful towards that, i am in process of writing them a letter for what good its going to do. anyway having it looked at tomorrow for quote so will keep informed.

also i brought the car used and am certain the dealer told me it had a 12 month warranty as with all used skodas and now i found out it dont, it just had 4 and half months left on it, now in my opion it should have ben toped up to a full year but thats probably just me!!!

Unlucky. Its got that "single mass flywheel" knocking to it then.... :( Thought about going for a single mass flywheel? Might be a good performance mod for the future.

I'm sure I read somewhere that going to a single mass, whilst excellent for acceleration, tended to knacker gearboxes?

Hi,

I have an 03 skoda Fabia Vrs which has recently been diagnosd with a problem that may be the flywheel, possibly the gearbox or somehing around that area.I have been told that I should not drive it. When i brought the car last december i was told by the dealer(peter little from wjh in Bedford) that the car would have a 12 month used vehicle warranty, just like the previous one i had.Now that i have this problem and have gone to that dealer and farmers of leicester i have been told by the bedford branch that i have no warranty because it came with only 4 months or so left on it. I think that the 'there goes your warranty, now your going to have to pay a lot' attitude towards my problem after just over a month of it expiring is shameful. I have owed three Fabias now, two of them the vrs and they have always been serviced and worked on by Skoda from day one, and it would be a shame to tarnish my faith within SUK and their usually great service. As an gester of good will from Skoda I thought that they would have covered it as I have no plans to change the manufacturer of car that I have driven for the past however many years. Thank you for your time

Daniel Stephenson

Yeah but the flywheel is in two parts.
