Radio on with engine off

Featured Replies

Is there any way of altering the wiring loom on the radio so when the engine is turned off, the radio also turns off ???

I take it this is with aftermarket ICE - the standard Symphony does this by default.

So does my aftermarket Clarion. It's a fairly common feature. Sounds like maybe your permanent live and your switched live are back to front.

If it is the standard Symphony unit, mine stopped switching itself off, there could be two causes - the IGN setting on the stereo needs to be set to ON, or a blown S Contact Fuse in your fuse box.

Yes it is an aftermarket radio, which wires are ignition and permanent ?

I do have a multimeter, so I can always try the voltages on them.

Which fuse ?

on head unit loom...

Red = Batt

Yellow= ignition

They are the other way round on VAG cars.. so you either need an adaptor, or most new H/Us have bullet connectors on those 2 so they can be swapped round (my DEH77MP did)

This should help... it only took me 3 months to crack :arrow: happy memories

If this makes no sense (and the link on link) then believe me I can almost probably maybe help... this was doing in my swede for ages !

I don't normally have the radio on , the CD instead , but when I switch my engine off the CD keeps playing until the ignition key is removed .......................I thought that's how it worked , but obviously not .

Same here. Head unit (Kenwood) will keep playing (either CD or radio) until ignition key is removed. I find it very practical, actually.

Mine is still the standard Skoda fit one , but I like it that way .

WAD = works as designed :D

Got my multimeter out, looked at the connectors, and noticed that the battery live was split into two, and went to batt live and ign live, so I guess that's that.

Unless of course, I find an ign live from somewhere (any ideas - felicia S reg) and route it back to the radio.

(Would also love to do the same thing to the cigarette lighter, as I constantly leave things plugged in)

If you are missing the switched line and you cant find one, it maybe easier to run a new piece of wire (with fuse inline) from where the wires connect to the ignition barrel to the back of the radio. Just find the one that comes on in ign pos. 1

The reason the octy is like has been described (mine is same) is that we have no ign. pos 1. We put key in ignition, then the first setting you come to is the one with all the warning lights, then starter.
