I have just purchased a 2001 Octavia Ambiente TDI and notice that neither reversing lights work. I tried new bulbs but to no avail, I checked out the fuse but that too was fine... Any ideas?

There will be a switch in the gearbox, that maybe your problem.

Things to to check first, is there 12Volts at the lamp holder?

If there is check the earths, and know you say you have tried the bulbs, but are the bulbs ok? check them with a meter(continuity)

if there is no voltage at the lamp holders, it could be the reversing switch, usully on the gearbox, again with a volt meter, with the ignition on, one side of the switch should be 12V and when in gear you should get 12v on the other side, if all these check are ok, then looks like a poss burnt out wire, or poss a broken wire.
