Another oil question

Featured Replies

Sorry about this guys, but did a search around here and coudn't find the answer, and I know how annoying this oily questions are!

But, I am having trouble finding oil for my vRS anywhere but Skoda, does anybody know anywhere else I can get it cheaper, or if VW or Seat cars use the same stuff?

Also, anybody give me a rough idea of how much I will need for a full change?

Millers XFE-PD 5w-40.

Go to Millers Oils - A World Leader In Lubrication Technology goto Stockists and use that to find your local reatiler. I hope this will help you :D

Cheers - helps a lot, is that stuff as good as the stuff I get from Skoda, I guess as long as its the same grade oil is oil, and will one 4/5 litre tub be enough - never bought oil for a full replace before, can you tell!

Check out ebay too, there are a few sellers selling the Quantum PD oil. Believe it or not Halfrauds also do a fully synthetic PD oil, not long life. You will need about 4.5 litres including the filter.

Oil may be oil, but like that saying...... Some Oil is More Equal then Others..... if ya get my drift.

Alot of people here back Millers oil..... as I do. Personally I would say it is better then the dealer stuff, as I have had a look at what they use at my local dealer, and it is some sort of basic generic brand I have not seen before.

As with size of your sump and filter, refer to owners manual to confirm how much you need mate :D

I hope this helps

I've used Millers XFE semi synthetic oil in several Peugeot diesels over the last 10 years and can wholey recommend their lubricants. I've never had any mechanical engine failures on any of these cars during that time. - mind you I've always changed the oils at 6000 miles even though millers say that they are good for 10- 12000 miles. Please note that the oil recomended for Skoda diesels is very specific and must comply with the relevant VW specification for your particular engine.

One thing does bother me about using oils other than Millers and that is the diesel engine's capacity to convert the sulphurous blow-by gasses produced in the cylinders into sulfuric acid in the engine sump. Millers claim that their oils are superior in being able to combat the formation of this acid and hence reduce its destructive nature.

I know that I need the exact spec oil that it says in the book, hence me asking so I don't make a **** up here. I am still worried about putting oil which hasn't come from the dealer into it, so if anybody can definately say that the Millers stuff is good to put in the vRS it would go to put my mind at rest, I don't want to go with a Halfords answer, 'its rougly the same'.

As for the amount, I had a flick through the book and couldn't see anything, I will sit down with it tonight again.

Thanks guys. :)

Yes Miller's XFE PD oil is fine - I've had it in mine with no ill effects. You might want to check out oilman's threads as well.

Cheers mate, will look into that, mind at rest :)

I also use Millers XFE-PD, and change the oil and filter every 5,000 miles.

The spec needed i believe is VW 505.01 for the VRS, and the Millers XFE-PD exceeds that quality rating and is official endorsed by VW, and as the VRS engine is a VW engine this oil will do great in your VRS :D

It is good to worry about what oil to put in your car, after all it is alot of money to treat poorly.... also the performace and life of your engine. It is good to see others who like to look after their 'TOYS' as much as I look after mine :D

I say go for it, get the oil and Skoda filter and your car will love you..... ok I am a little wierd but youknow what I mean :D
