Bog standard Octy

Featured Replies

I have a recently purchased Octy1 L&K tdi estate but its in for a leaky sunroof, they've (Hortons at Lincoln) given me a brand new Octy hatch to use till tuesday a 1.6 FSI in a goldy colour, why do I feel the need to wear a flat cap and play golf?? I always associate gold cars with retired old duffers :D anyway the car? oh dear its very sssslllllooooooooowww does anyone without a bus pass buy the standard model  Ok it has the build quality and a very nice stereo but my old FS1E moped was faster than this thing.

You are probably missing the shove/torque of your diesel. I have to agree with you about the 1.6, I recently had a hire Golf with this engine and thought it was painfully slow. Base / entry level cars have to start somewhere, it brings the model to those who have a smaller budget but wouldnt it be nice if Skoda only had the Octavia with either 170 TDI or 200 FSI for entry level money?:D

Cars there for those who can only afford that, not everyone can have an L&K or a vRS or an Elegance :D

say pilgrim! i may be the wrong side of 30 but i'm a few years away from my bus pass. my classic 1.6fsi is tip-top.

one of the reasons i bought it was to have cheaper motoring, i've had 'sports-saloons' for the last two cars and my bank account could no longer stem the flow to bp! also i was somewhat tired of having every gadget know to man on a car and watching where the machine was parked less some t**t nicked it. it's also nice to pay half wha i was for insurance

tbh the 1.6 is lightweight, performance wise, compared to the 2.0tdi, however my daily runs are in rush-hours and chock in the middle of a tailback, the difference, there, is superflous.

whats a "tailback" ??? I live in Lincolnshire we only do "press on" driving ;)

1.6 FSI, Worcester to Suffolk, 180 miles, 64 mph and 42 mpg average, and I stuck to the speed limits. Ditto Worcester to north Devon (far left of), 60 mph and 42 mpg. OK it could use some more torque, but why would I need anything faster? Fast cars are very nice, but you can't really use the poke that often. If I wanted something with poke, I'd buy another motorbike :-)

My 1.6 FSI Elegance is wonderful, but then, I wanted a bigger family car for my 2 children and wife to travel in a bit of style and car does the job and more.

It looks great in silver, it has enough speed in reserve if I want a bit extra out of it, it handles great, cruises well at 90mph and is a big step up from my 1.4 16V Fabia estate.

Guess it depends on what you are used to but I am sure if I had a couple of extra grand plus the extra for the insurance, I'd have loved a faster car, but whilst being 36, I don't feel the need to speed everywhere, most of my travelling is done in inner city with a few trips here and there on teh motorway and the 1.6 FSI certainly is no slouch. It certainly keeps up with most cars. Although you do get overtaken by the odd boy racer only to catch up a few miles down the road due to traffic ;) So, you are entitled to your opinion, but some of us are happy with our slow car :o

One last thing, I don't play golf either.

Have to ask, I looked at the L&K before I decided on my Elegance and I could not see the justification for paying an extra 3500 or so. Couln't even see and indication that the car was an L&K from the outside or in. It was almost identical to an Elegance with leather seats and a couple of extras.

What made you go for the L&K? I am very curious by the way, although that is assuming the case with the new is the same for the MK1 and of course you purchased new.

Local dealer are selling the Mk2 Octavia 1.6 FSi classic with 12 miles on the clock for £9495...........They have been registered and are 06 plates but a Bargain!!!! Just to add......................2 Silver, 1 Black

No the L&K wasn't bought from new even if I could have afforded one I wouldn't buy a new car, why the L&K? my last car was a Focus Tdi and 4 years ago cost me

Sorry I haven't responded to this until now, been away, but just wanted you to know that I didn't really take your comment as a dig, so glad none of us lost too much sleep over it.

Hope you got you car sorted now.
