help , confused??!!

Featured Replies

Relating to my recent accident, I am soooo confused (its not hard to confuse me:rofl: )

Anyway, to the point: was shunted up the rear end o'ther day on motorway, other driver is totally at fault and is admitting that.

Now, rang my insurers who have organised for my Fabia to be repaired, got courtesy car and my car is now at repairers BUT got letter today about my claim from my insurance company which has worried me, now

1) do I lose my No Claims Bonus 'cos its classed as a claim even though its not my fault?

2) they want

Normally what happens is you make a claim your company pay.

They will then normally try to reclaim the money from the third party or it's insurance company. If they are successful you get your NCB and Excess back, if they aren't you don't!!

Varies from insurer to insurer - if there was not doubt about the fault of the accident, personally I would've contacted the other person's insurance company to sort out the repairs. That way you're not claiming on your insurance, and so aren't making a claim which could affect NCB.

thanx for all that, put me mind at rest, (a bit)

another thing, at the time of the accident, the other party would not tell me their insurance company, just gave me her name and address, I always thought people exchanged all their details when this happened, including insurance details Luckily the police came as she was in a hurry to get away, and then I don't know what would have happened!!!!

I remember when SHMBO's Impreza was repaired after a minor front end shunt.

They delivered the car back and had only resprayed one half of the front bumper.

The repairer explained that this was all the insurance company would approve.:thumbdwn:

Needless to say I would not accept the car, called the insurance company who then told the repairer to do a 'proper' job.

Anyway, It doesn't matter who is paying, (you or the insurance company) you still have the same rights to refuse the return of the car, if you think the repair is shoddy.

It is always worth getting things sorted before you give them back the courtesy car too!

Even if you know the name of the insurance company (and I'm betting that many of us have a spouse on a policy, who won't know the name), do you know the relevant contact address?

feel much better now, I do not have to pay any excess and do not lose my No Claims, just rung insurance now, :D

but bad news, my car's going to be at least 2 weeks to be repaired and thats just an estimate:(

my mates smart car suspension collapsed after repairs he had to it after 2 years, when he hit black ice and went into a wall.

He contacted the insurer at the time, who he wasnt with no more and they assesed the damage and it all got sorted through a different repairer. The original garage admitted no being able to get the smart parts and used alternatives to get the car on the road.

the car is sorted but the insurer is trying to get compensation for my mates troubles at the time, but the repairer now deals under a different name, so its unlikely he will see anything.

But if you had problems down the line im sure the insurer would look into the work if it was not up to scratch after having the car back
